His Vegas Golden Knights (26-9-2) increased their Pacific Division lead to three points earlier in the day at T-Mobile Arena with a 6-3 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs, extending their win streak to seven games, an NHL record for a team in its inaugural season. And center William Karlsson capped the victory with the first hat trick in franchise history as Vegas improved to 11-0-1 in its last 12 games.

State Senate Candidate Shane Reeves Launches TV Commercial Ahead of January Special Election

State Senate hopeful Shane Reeves announced Friday he will air a new, 30-second TV advertisement to promote his campaign to replace former State Senator Jim Tracy (R-Shelbyville), who resigned in November to join the Trump Administration at the USDA. In a statement, the Reeves campaign said the commercial will air during the NCAA bowl games, plus the playoff and national championship games next week. The ad buy also includes airtime beginning next week on popular cable channels, such as FOX News, HGTV, and others. Reeves is well-known in Middle Tennessee as the former owner of the Reeves-Sain Family of Medical Services. He sold his majority interest in the company to Fred’s in 2015, and currently owns TwelveStone Health Partners where he employs 125 people in Rutherford County. Reeves and former state Representative Joe Carr are both vying for the Republican nomination for the 14th State Senate District seat, which will be decided in a special primary election January 25. The general election will be held in March. Representative Ron DeSantis: Congress to Vary Measures for DOJ, FBI on Trump Dossier

A Republican congressman said Sunday that the Justice Department and the FBI have until next week to turn over documents about the Trump dossier, or else Congress will pursue other measures to obtain them. Florida Rep. Ron DeSantis’ comments come after House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes sent a letter Thursday to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about the Justice Department and the FBI failing to hand over the documents about President Trump.

Too much good and bad during 2017 to pick just one “hero” or “villain” to celebrate or revile, so The Tennessee Star has decided to do a throwback to high school days when Senior Superlatives were dished out to a wide number of contenders. Today, we dish out the best of the “bad.” Tomorrow, we hand out the “good” stuff. MOST DESPICABLE. Pretty easy pick here as Senator Bob Corker entered the year as a front runner and only enhanced his selection when Rolling Stone added ethical transgressions to his resume late in December. His verbal “slap fight” with Trump, while the President continued to enjoy astronomical approval ratings among Tennessee Republicans, cemented his retirement plans. Opposing tax cuts, then flip flopping; opposing repeal of Obamacare; and the continued negative consequences surrounding his signature legislative accomplishment (the Iran Deal) all helped secure unanimous support for Corker being named “Most Despicable” for 2017.
