Franklin-area businessman and Republican candidate for governor Bill Lee showed his support for Chick-Fil-A while at the same time poking fun at Twitter founder and CEO Jack Dorsey’s apology over the weekend for the “crime” of enjoying a chicken sandwich.

Jack Dorsey tweets Chick-Fil-AAt issue is a tweet by the social media giant’s founder proudly displaying his app-enabled purchase of a Chick-Fil-A meal.

Reaction from the activist Left – especially from the LGBT quarters – was withering, and soonafter, Jack Dorsey capitulated, replying to former CNN anchor, “You’re right. Completely forgot about their background.”

The ‘background’ Dorsey is referring to is a series of statements made by Chick-Fil-A’s Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy from 2012 regarding his support of the biblical definition of marriage of one man and one woman, which triggered simultaneous boycotts by the left and BUY-cotts by the right.

Ultimately, the fast-food stores’ sales rose an astonishing 12 percent, though the company’s owners stepped back from their support of conservative causes.

“Going forward, our intent is to leave the policy debate over same-sex marriage to the government and political arena,” the company said in a statement in July, 2012.

Bill Lee is among four Republican and two Democrat candidates for Tennessee’s chief executive.

His campaign prominently features his strong faith tradition, interleaving key passages of scripture into positions about the issues Tennesseans face:

I’m a follower of Christ who is committed to living a life of service to others. I am a conservative who believes government should get out of the way and allow people to live their lives and thrive.  I wake up every morning trying to figure out how to make life better for my 1,200 employees at my company, and I will take that same energy to lead our state, trying to figure out how we can make life better for 6.5 million Tennesseans.

And

“As for me, I will always have hope, I will praise You more and more.”
Psalm 71:14

I’m a follower of Christ who is committed to living a life of service to others. I am a conservative who believes government should get out of the way and allow people to live their lives and thrive. I wake up every morning trying to figure out how to make life better for my 1,200 employees at my company, and I will take that same energy to lead our state, trying to figure out how we can make life better for 6.5 million Tennesseans.

Uh, do these people know that the guy who made those statements has not been alive since 2014?

Some of my Jewish friends refuse to buy or ride in a Mercedes or a Volkswagen. I have supported these positions by never buying those vehicles. This has not been difficult. After Daimler-Benz bought Chrysler, I bought another Chrysler Concorde, however. My husband’s people were longtime Chrysler dealers. Priorities.

If my father were still alive, I don’t know if he would be driving a Japanese car. He once shot down their airplanes. I think I held that grudge longer than he would have. I gave up when I discovered my “American” cars had Japanese engines.

I’d certainly like to know what Bill Lee means about government getting out of people’s lives. I will be watching to see if he and certain others stay out of mine.

They would be fine if he was eating at Dick-Fil-A’s.

So long as I understand this. Chik-Fil-A does not discriminate against anyone. But an officer of the company holds religious views shared by a majority of the country. And for that, the company must be boycotted and any customer should be publicly shamed.

    Did I get that right?

By that logic, if any officer of any company holds leftwing views then they should be boycotted as well and their customers harassed.

Boycott away though. Their lines are too long as it is and I would like to get mine faster.
