Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp Board of Directors Announce Support for Governor Lee’s Special Legislative Session

The Board of Directors of the Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp (NCVC) has released a statement in support of Governor Bill Lee’s decision to call a special legislative session next month.

“The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp Board of Directors supports Governor Bill Lee’s effort to convene a special session of the Tennessee General Assembly to address public safety,” NCVC’s Board of Directors began. “The tragic school shooting that occurred on March 27, 2023, demonstrated that our great state is not immune to the rise in violence being experienced in other communities throughout our country.”

“As leaders of the hospitality industry, one of the largest business segments in Tennessee, we feel it is vital to the overall welfare of our communities that state leaders convene and seek solutions that promote public safety,” the Board of Directors added. “We submit this statement knowing that our voice joins many Tennesseans in support of such a call to action to our state leadership.”

“While the challenge is difficult, we are also heartened and hopeful by the resilient Tennessee volunteer spirit which serves as a hallmark of our great state. In that spirit, we stand ready to engage and assist state leaders as solutions are considered,” NCVC’s Board of Directors concluded.

Shortly after announcing the legislative special session, scheduled to convene on August 21, Lee said he would “meet with legislators, stakeholders and Tennesseans throughout the summer to discuss practical solutions ahead of the special session” in the meantime.

However, as recently noted by State Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) on The Tennessee Star Report, Lee “has not said anything to lawmakers about what he is aiming to accomplish.”

Lee initially called for Red Flag Laws in response to Following the March 27 shooting at The Presbyterian Covenant School in Nashville, to which Republican legislators said they will not introduce legislation for.

Red Flag Laws bring crime and terror to women and other law-abiding citizens.
Get the bad actors off the streets and leave the good people alone!
Release the manifesto of the trans community murderer.
The public has the right to know to help prevent more of the same type of murders.
How about going after those that suffer from heterophobia, catholic phobia and Christian phobia ?

Gov. Lee….”the manifesto will be released soon”….

    Still waiting governor……

Tell the convention and visitors bureau that we would like the Republican Convention here.

    Leave our guns alone.

Article I, Section 26, of the Tennessee State Constitution:

That the citizens of this state have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime.

Perhaps during this special session, if it is actually called, the legislators should review codes:

    Tenn. Code Ann. § 39-17-13xx

especially -1309 (c)(1) – and allow the carry of weapons, by non-students, on school grounds in an effort to dissuade the criminal element from thinking that a school shooting would be a free-for-all until the police show up.

perhaps – 1311,1359 and other subsections should be reviewed, as well.

Typical nonsense from people who make a living running a con. They offer no suggestions but they stand ready to help sell the public a false narrative. Bill Lee has offered nothing specific either. Stop wasting the public’s time and money on more government nonsense. Tennessee should not be ground zero for the elimination of the Second Amendment.
