Tennessee Representatives John Rose and Scott DesJarlais Selected to Serve on the House Agriculture Committee

Tennessee Representatives John Rose (R-TN-06) and Scott DesJarlais (R-TN-04) have been chosen to serve on the House Agriculture Committee.

Agricultural policy and oversight of agricultural-related federal agencies fall under the jurisdiction of the House Committee on Agriculture. In addition, funding appropriations for governmental agencies, programs, and activities are recommended by the committee.

Rose, a new committee member, said “farming is in his veins.” The representative was raised in a Middle Tennessee farm family, a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and a Tennessee Tech agriculture grad.

“The opportunity to serve on the House Agriculture Committee is a privilege and the fulfillment of a dream that extends back to my time in the blue corduroy jacket as a student member of the Future Farmers of America. As Congress looks to pass the farm bill and conduct oversight of President Biden’s Department of Agriculture, I am hopeful that my experience as an 8th-generation family farm owner will be beneficial to our nation’s farmers, ranchers, foresters, and producers,” Rose said in a statement.

DesJarlais is a returning member of the committee, who describes his work on the committee as “making sure federal policies incentivize growth and jobs, not government dependence.”

The Agriculture Committee is chaired by Congressman Glenn “GT” Thompson (R-PA-15).

Yes, Every Kid

“I welcome this diverse group of legislators to the House Committee on Agriculture for the 118th Congress. It’s imperative we hit the ground running through a rigorous hearing schedule, listening sessions, and aggressive oversight. I look forward to working closely with my colleagues as we put forward common sense solutions that provide certainty for rural America,” Chairman Thompson said in a statement.

Each member appointed to the House Agriculture Committee was recommended to serve by the House Republican Steering Committee.
