Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition Schedules First Professional Development

The Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition has scheduled its first Professional Development for the 2019 Miss Tennessee and Outstanding Teen class for this coming Saturday, Feb. 2, at Iberia Bank Mortgage in Murfreesboro.

Miss Candidates ages 18-25 are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a press release.

The same press release went on to say Outstanding Teen Candidates ages 13-17 are scheduled from 1:30 p.m. to 5p.m.

People in Tennessee should take interest in the organization and its benefits to young women, said Foundation Board Chair Eddie Smith.

“Look at the costs of higher education and how it’s been  climbing over the last few years. The one constant through all of that has been the Miss Tennessee and Miss America competitions,” Smith told The Tennessee Star.

“Miss America in and of itself has been the largest provider of scholarships for women and Miss Tennessee over the last decade and has given away over a million dollars in scholarship moneys for these candidates to be able to use to help further their education.”

This year’s professional development will include experts in the pageant world to help prepare the candidate for the Miss Tennessee and Outstanding Teen competition, according to a press release.

Miss Tennessee’s Outstanding Teen for 2018, Mary Humphrey, will help prepare Outstanding Teen candidates, the press release went on to say.

“This is just a professional development day where we can have a speaker come in to work with the young women on various stages of the competition, whether it be their interview with the judges or their on-stage questions, just to help them get used to the new judging criteria this year within the new Miss America organization, and what they will experience at Miss Tennessee and then for the outstanding teens in that competition as well on March 30,” Smith said.

“It is a chance to work with the outstanding teens in the afternoon on the same thing and then we have some additional things we will be working with them on, just on stage presence, how they present themselves on stage, in the best light for the judges to be able to judge them.”

The Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition is scheduled for June 26-29 at Knoxville’s Thompson-Boling Arena.

The Miss Tennessee Outstanding Teen Competition, meanwhile, is scheduled for March 30 at Gallatin High School in Gallatin.

IberiaBank Mortgage is located at 1639 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro.
