‘The People’s Sheriff’ David Clarke Resigns, Attends Fraternal Order of Police Convention in Nashville

Tennessee Star

While attending the Fraternal Order of Police convention in Nashville Thursday, reports that ‘The People’s Sheriff’ David Clarke resigned his post, effective at 11:59pm, broke on talk radio’s Mark Belling Show.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says Clarke turned in his letter of resignation to the County Clerk – presumably as he departed Milwaukee for Nashville.

The Journal Sentinal reports:

Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. — the controversial, Stetson-wearing official who rose to national prominence with his no-holds-barred conservative rhetoric — resigned his office Thursday.

Clarke, who is in his fourth term, submitted a resignation letter to Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson on Thursday afternoon. The sheriff was attending the convention of the National Fraternal Order of Police in Nashville and could not be reached for comment.

“Pursuant to Wisconsin Statute 17.01, this communication is submitted as the notice of my resignation as Sheriff of Milwaukee County commencing Aug. 31, 2017, at 11:59 p.m.,” stated Clarke’s resignation letter.

The news of the resignation was first reported by conservative talk show host Mark Belling.

First appointed in 2002 by Governor Scott McCallum, Sheriff Clarke, a Democrat, earned the admiration and support of voters on both sides of the aisle for his steadfast allegiance to the Constitution and the rule of law.

Though he has not yet issued a public comment about his resignation as of this writing, there is wide speculation Clarke will join the Trump Administration is some capacity. The Sheriff is an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump and was one of the campaign’s most effective surrogates.

But for the moment, the former Sheriff is enjoying the company of his law enforcement brethren in Nashville.

I’m having a deja vu feeling. Haven’t we been down this road before where the good sheriff resigned to work in Trump’s administration? Somehow his new position didn’t work out although I can’t remember any details. I sure hope it works out for him (and us!) this time!

You stated “…enjoying the company of his law enforcement brethren in Nashville.” How about using colleagues to replace brethren? There are a lot of women law enforcement officers. Feel free to edit my comment to remove this portion directed toward you or just not approve any of my comment. Thank you))
