Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) will try to build consensus next week around narrow tweaks to Obamacare that could draw bipartisan support and fix the health law’s biggest flaws. It is unlikely such an effort will produce anything meaningful, however, according to conservative activists and health care scholars. “It’s going to be vey small,” said Michael Tanner,…

President Trump to Personally Donate $1 Million to Hurricane Harvey Relief

In a surprise announcement during an otherwise routine press briefing Thursday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders announced President Donald Trump will personally donate $1,000,000 to Hurricane Harvey relief. The news came after Ms. Sanders took the podium at the conclusion of White House Homeland Security Advisor Tom Bossert’s question-and-answer period updating reporters on the federal government’s response to the devastating storm. A media correspondent noted the outpouring of support by Americans in response to the destruction of so many homes and businesses in and around the Houston area from Hurricane Harvey, and asked, “Can you speak to what the President and his family have done regarding donations for Harvey relief?” and then hastily added, “Personally?” Sanders answered, “I can.” “I spoke with [President Trump] directly earlier and he would like to join in the efforts that a lot of people across the country do, pledging a million dollars of personal money.” She added, “He has actually asked that I check with the folks in this room, since you are very good at research and have been doing a lot of reporting into groups and organizations that are most effective in helping and providing aid. Bill Hennessy Commentary: ‘Common Knowledge’ Masks the Islamist Element Underpinning ‘Statue Wars’

Tennessee Star

You probably believe the narrative. Because that narrative is strong right now. It has become common knowledge. Common knowledge in the formal, game theory sense of the word. In game theory, common knowledge is something everyone knows everyone knows. And everyone know everyone knows. And everyone knows how everyone else will behave because of that knowledge. Common knowledge doesn’t have to be true. In a common knowledge game, truth doesn’t matter. All that matters is conformity. Behaving or speaking in opposition to common knowledge does no good. Because the culture will punish you for speaking the truth if the truth counters common knowledge. People who point out the truth during a common knowledge game get punished. For example, people who ate whole eggs during the cholesterol common knowledge game were punished. People who ate high fat, low carbohydrate diets during the fat-is-bad common knowledge game were punished. Punished by family. Punished by friends. Punished by doctors. Punished by strangers in hotel restaurants. People who go along with common knowledge games usually suffer in the end. Like people who ate high carbohydrate diets and got fatter and fatter. But those who behaved according to the common knowledge weren’t punished. They…

Progressives Draft Statement To Counter Evangelical Nashville Statement Supporting Traditional Marriage

Three Nashville progressives have created a left-wing alternative to the Nashville Statement, a declaration signed by evangelical Christian leaders that upholds traditional marriage and describes homosexuality and transgenderism as sinful. Corey Pigg (pictured above, left), Melissa Greene, and Matthew Paul Turner drafted The Accurate Nashville Statement and are collecting signatures from around the city and across the nation. “On behalf of those that are religious – we want you to know that you are created in the image and likeness of God (however you define it) – and that there is nothing wrong with you,” reads part of the brief statement. “God does not need you to change. God loves you just the way you are – no matter where you land on the spectrum of the LGTBQIA+ continuum. There is great diversity expressed in humanity through our wide array of unique sexualities and gender identities.” Greene is a former Christian recording artist who performed with the group Avalon and until recently was pastor of worship and arts at GracePointe, an evangelical church whose membership plummeted when it endorsed LGBT inclusion in 2015. Greene recently co-founded a spiritual community called Imaginarium. On his Facebook page, Pigg describes himself as an “INFJ Ex-Missionary. Jesus Mystic.…
