Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN-05) and Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her three children, are allegedly getting divorced and separating for a second time.

The Daily Mail broke the story exclusively Friday afternoon, and reported that Omar recently moved into a $2,800-a-month penthouse in downtown Minneapolis.

Omar and Hirsi were first married in 2002 during an Islamic ceremony, but separated for the first time six years later. She then married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, the man who is allegedly her brother, in 2009. While still married to Elmi and separated from Hirsi, Omar filed joint tax returns with Hirsi in 2014 and 2015 in violation of state and federal tax law, as The Minnesota Sun reported. Elmi and Omar didn’t legally divorce until 2017.

Omar married Hirsi again in 2018, this time in a civil ceremony, but their relationship is now apparently coming to a close for a second time. They have three children together, one of whom was born in 2012 while they were allegedly separated.

“Wow. I can’t comment on that. I’m sorry, I just can’t saying anything,” Hirsi told The Daily Mail when he was approached for comment.

Omar’s office didn’t return requests for comment on the matter.

One source identified as a family friend told The Daily Mail that Hirsi only sleeps at the new penthouse when Omar is out of town.

“He only goes there when Ilhan is in DC,” the friend told The Daily Mail. “When she’s in Minneapolis he sleeps at his house.”

The Daily Mail claims to have traced Elmi this week to a beach resort in Mombasa, Kenya.

“Obviously we are proud that a Somali-American has been elected,” a source identified as a community leader told The Daily Mail. “But we just think it is the wrong Somali-American.”

Powerline’s Scott Johnson, who has written extensively about Omar’s past, discussed the latest development in a Friday article.

“Sources told me a month ago that Ilhan Omar had essentially abandoned her family in Minneapolis and wanted her current legal husband—husband number one, Ahmed Hirsi, the father of her children—to seek a divorce from her,” he writes. “I understood that Omar doesn’t want to be seen by the local Somali community as seeking a divorce, either under Islamic custom or American law.”

Not Much of a surprise. Immigrants these days are NOTHING like 100 years ago when hard working skilled labor flocked by invitation to populate a desolate western nation. Thousands died from sickness and in ships sinking on dangerous voyages across the sea. we should close our borders and allow skilled and capable folks that promote the nation to higher standards … not bring us down to the standards prevalent around the world. what makes this nation strong can not be lost in capitulations to the shaming those among us would like to promote. in the end .. if people want what we have … do not come and ” take ” it… build it yourself in your own nation.

This is a bunch of bullcrap! As an born here American citizen I can’t get anything from the government! I have tried for disability and can’t get any help! The American citizens can’t get help to open business’s or get help if they’re homeless and our veterans are not treated well when they return! We should take care of our own and quit letting all these Muslims come in and take over!

What is wrong with the ‘journalist’ who wrote this, spreading the claim that she married her brother? This toxic BS with zero evidence. Since the writer apparently can’t do their own fact checking, this one’s on me: Per Snopes.com-

‘We found no public records or credible sources contradicting Omar’s account of her past, nor any substantive evidence corroborating claims that Elmi is her brother or that their marriage was otherwise fraudulent. In addition, some of the claims offered in support of the rumor don’t seem to add up.

According to Omar’s proffered version of events, she fled the Somalian civil war with her family in 1991 and lived for four years in a refugee camp in Kenya before immigrating to the U.S. in 1995. Omar’s mother died when she was 2, so she and her siblings were raised by her father and grandfather. The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported just before the 2018 midterm elections that:

During an interview, Omar showed a reporter cellphone photos of documents from her family’s U.S. entry in 1995 after fleeing Somalia’s civil war. She declined to provide copies of the papers, which included refugee resettlement approval forms and identification cards, but they appeared to list her father, siblings and Omar by order of birth, with Omar as the youngest of seven children. No one named Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, who is three years younger than Omar, could be seen listed in the documents.

“For someone like me, who left a war-torn country at the age of 8, who got refugee status to come to America, where in the world am I finding a sibling 15 years, 20 years later to seek to do what people accuse me of?” Omar said.

Given that Omar and her siblings all came to live in the U.S. under identical circumstances as refugees, and that Omar herself became a naturalized U.S. citizen while still a minor, how did one of her siblings end up with such a radically different immigration status that she would have needed to marry him in order to facilitate his U.S. residency application?

Also, if Ahmed Elmi were truly Omar’s brother, why would he have needed to take the drastic step of marrying her in order to secure a path to U.S. citizenship? U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) policies qualify immigrants as eligible to apply for permanent residency status (and later become naturalized citizens) if they are the “spouse of a U.S. citizen” or the “brother or sister of a U.S. citizen.” Why would Omar commit a federal crime and risk a prison sentence (and possibly her own citizenship status) in order to provide her brother with the opportunity to apply for something he would already have been eligible to seek?

Elmi reportedly attended North Dakota State University with Omar between 2009 and 2012. But as a British citizen Elmi could have studied at any university in the European Union or European Economic Area, and in some of those countries his education would have been tuition-free. Was attending school in North Dakota instead such a priority as to merit committing marriage and immigration fraud and risking a fine of up to $250,000 and five years in prison?

If Elmi was so desperate for U.S. residency/citizenship status that he engaged in a sham “marriage” with his sister in order to seek it, why did he return to England after his split with Omar? And why is there no record of Elmi’s having applied for or obtained such status if that was the whole point of his supposedly “fraudulent” marriage to his alleged sister?”

What a great example of the corruption in politics. She will got away with all of this because she is a liberal politician in a liberal state. We are all expected to follow the law but politicians somehow get a free pass. America is fast becoming fed up with this kind of behavior and the pot will soon boil over.

She will be deported soon for fraudulent charges. She is being protected by Obama and SOROS. Obama took advantage of our weak immigration system and flooded his Muslim people in, but detained and sent back Hispanics in our southern borders. He set up the cages. He never had immigration laws reformed purposely. He only gave his sly great speeches that his followers loved to hear , but his words carried empty actions. He never did push Congress to reform immigration laws

  11. Byron

The would be divorcee murmured, “He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother . . . “

She is a fraud, and does not belong in congress or anywhere near a position of leadership or influence. Her activities are un-American.

Also, if she committed immigration fraud with the “marry her brother” thing, then she must lose her citizenship (for fraud) and then be deported. I have already volunteered to push her out the back of the airplane. As it has been a few years, I just hope I can remember the proper wearing of a parachute before she leaves the plane.
