Pro-Green New Deal Group Scheduled to Hold Rallies in Nashville and Knoxville

Members of a left-leaning group who advocate for the Green New Deal are scheduled to hold what is known as a “Climate Strike Friday” in Nashville and Knoxville as part of a larger nationwide movement.

Members of this group, known as the Sunrise Movement, said they chose this day because it’s the same time world leaders are gathering at the United Nations’ Annual Climate Conference in Madrid, Spain.

“We joined the #ClimateStrike because our lives depend on elected leaders treating this crisis like the emergency it is,” according to the Sunrise Movement’s website.

“On December 6th, we’ll show up at the offices of our political leaders and ask them, are you ready to stand with our generation and fight for a Green New Deal?”

According to the Sunrise Movement of Nashville’s Facebook page, members want to end the corrupting influence of fossil fuel money on our political system” and “make climate policy an urgent national priority.”

Members also will support representatives or candidates who refuse to take fossil fuel money and have a clear plan on climate change and are determined to make it a reality, the Facebook page went on to say.

Yes, Every Kid

Members of the group say on their national website that they are growing in number and are nonviolent in word and deed.

As The Tennessee Star reported in February, New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez released the Green New Deal resolution that’s become a central part of the Democratic agenda, including backing from 2020 candidates.

The “Green New Deal” resolution calls for “10-year national mobilizations” towards a series of goals aimed at fighting global warming, according to a copy of the bill obtained by NPR. A separate fact-sheet claims the plan would “mobilize every aspect of American society on a scale not seen since World War 2.”

That includes getting all our energy needs from “clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” by “dramatically expanding and upgrading existing renewable power sources.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s non-binding resolution calls for a variety of social justice and welfare state goals, including “a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations and retirement security” and “high-quality health care” benefits for Americans.

The resolution calls for “repairing historic oppression” among certain groups, including minorities, immigrants, women, low-income workers, indigenous people and youth collectively called “frontline and vulnerable communities.”

Sunrise Movement members are scheduled to hold their Climate Strike Friday at Legislative Plaza in Nashville and at the University of Tennessee’s HSS Amphitheater in Knoxville, according to the group’s website.

Meanwhile I’m turning up the thermostat in my fossil fuel heated apartment and sleeping in my boxer shorts….and no blanket.

These lemmings just follow the deceitful leaders of these shams while the leaders stuff their pockets full of money.

  3. William R. Delzell

No, Karen: I disagree. I welcome the Green New Dealers as their agenda, especially in Tennessee, is long overdue! If the corporate Democrats like Phil Bredesen won’t stand up to Governor Lee and Company, we need radical leftists to do the job! Welcome to Tennessee.

    1. Steve Allen

No William. Anyone with any common sense can see through this facade. The GND as proposed is impossible to fulfill. And to give credibility to a group of people who still live at home and have no experience with the realities of daily life is nonsense. No, the world isn’t coming to an end any time soon. These extremely impressionable youth are being brainwashed by the Leftest controlled education system.

  4. Ron Welch

They should be protesting their supposed “leaders” who have massive travel and lifestyle “carbon footprints”. Example: Will they be protesting at one of former President Obama’s residences, a $15 million dollar mansion and estate on Martha’s Vineyard–on ocean front property, no less? Well maybe he’ll sell it to a “climate-denier” for a profit before it’s inundated by rising ocean waters and donate the money to the UN. Ah-huh.

    Communism comes to Tennessee.
