Chick-Fil-A Turns Left as Public Relations Disaster Continues to Unfold

In a special interview Thursday morning on The Tennessee Star Report with Michael Patrick Leahy – broadcast on Nashville’s Talk Radio 98.3 and 1510 WLAC weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. – host Michael Patrick Leahy spoke to former Vanderbilt professor Carol Swain about the recent public relations issue facing Chick-fil-A.

During the third hour of the show, Swain and Leahy discussed how Chick-fil-A’s foundation hired a former Obama administrator to run its Chick-fil-A Foundation. All these changes occurred after being dubbed a hate group by the LGBT community and the infamous left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center.

Leahy: We are broadcasting with our good friend Carol Swain from our studios on Music Row this morning. Carol if it’s OK with you I’d just like to change the subject just for a bit because we’ve been covering impeachment and the debacle of the testimony of these far-left lunatic professors yesterday ad nauseam here.

But I want to just change the topic right now for a moment to another public relations debacle that involves Chick-fil-A. Can you bring our listening audience up to speed on what’s happened the last couple of weeks with Chick-fil-A?

Swain: Well, first of all, it remains to be seen whether or not it is a debacle. If we conservatives continue to line up at their restaurants and buy those greasy chicken sandwiches it won’t be a debacle for them.

Leahy: Now you know I like those greasy chicken sandwiches.

Swain: I know.

Leahy: But are they greasy?

Swain: I can tell you in the past I  have stopped at Chick-fil-A restaurants because I thought I was doing a good thing.

Leahy: Now that’s the key point isn’t it. They’re closed on Sundays. Founded in the mid-60s and they’ve got great service. The people that work there are great. But they’ve promoted a Christian world view. They’re closed Sundays. But that’s changed, hasn’t it?

Swain: Yes. And if there’s anyone out there who’s been living under a rock (Leahy laughs) what’s happened is that Chick-fil-A has caved to the political left. Starting back in the 2000s because of their Christian stance the Catholic family has supported conservative organizations such as the Family Research Center and the Salvation Army.

The fellowship of Christian athletes. Well the LGBT community labeled them as a hate group. And so did the Southern Poverty Law Center. What Chick-fil-A has done recently is that they no longer support the Salvation Army, the Fellowship for Christian Athletes, or the Family Research Council. Conservative Christian organizations that have a Biblical world view. Instead, they are supporting organizations that are pro-abortion. Pro-LGBT.

Swain: In fact Covenant House…

Leahy: I saw that.

Swain: One of the new organizations that they are supporting instead of the Christian organizations the founder was a priest that was accused of molesting some of the boys that sought shelter at his facility. And so that was in the news some years ago.

They have also had a drag queen or drag show at the Covenant House. And then probably the most egregious thing that Chick-fil-A has done is that they’ve given money to the Southern Poverty Law Center. And conservatives know that the Southern Poverty Law Center is not about poverty. It’s not about fairness.

It’s a leftist organization that pushes an agenda that’s totally antithetical to the Christian world view or anything that smacks of Judeo-Christian world view.

Leahy: So what happened to Chick-fil-A? Why have they turned?

Swain: Well, I interviewed David Black last week on my podcast.

Leahy: And he’s the head of 2nd Vote? Describe briefly what 2nd Vote does?

Swain: It’s an organization that monitors corporate America and ranks them on how they use our money. How they invest. And so we talked about Chick-fil-A’s flip. And one of the things that 2nd Vote will be doing is lowering their rating. They had the highest possible rating I believe. They had a five.

And they will be dropped down to a one. Because they are actually promoting left-wing causes. At the same time, they have become a threat to Christians in the sense that they are using the money that we spend as consumers and as if they are investors, they are using those funds to promote a left-wing agenda.

Leahy: The money is donated. First, they make a lot of money. So they’ve been successful and they set up this foundation. The Chick-fil-A Foundation which then makes donations. It’s now run by this guy who’s a former Obama Administration official. Did you see that?

Swain: Yes I believe he was hired in 2012. When I interviewed David Black there were lots of details that we didn’t know at that time. But I suspected that the organization had been infiltrated and it certainly was. And another change that may have taken place.

A lot of conservatives have sent their children to left-wing universities. Those children come home and lobby their parents and grandparents. That could be a factor too that we’re not aware of.

Leahy: A very good point.

Swain: There are some petitions out there to send a message to Dan Cathy. Maybe he didn’t know his organization was taken over. In case he didn’t, look for one of those petitions and sign one.

    For Pete’s sake drop the JUDEO in Judeo-Christian Values! The leftward turn of Chick-Fil-A is protoypical JUDEO values. The same values of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer. The same values as every “legal expert” who testified for the Dems in the impeachment hearings. The same values as who makes up the SPLC (Cohen). The same values as Congressman Steve Cohen from Memphis. The same values of every Hollywood movie studio head. The same values as the NY TImes, CNN, MSNBC, etc.
    They are not even hiding it anymore. It’s blatant and you have to be purposely naive to ignore it. Stick with CHRISTIAN values. Adding judeo to the description is mocking yourself and more importantly our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
