Growing Chorus of Lawmakers Join Effort to Prevent Packing Supreme Court

An organization dedicated to preserving the independence of the U.S. Supreme Court reports it has won several large victories in the past week.

Keep Nine said in a statement that Republican Gov. Doug Ducey of Arizona has endorsed its work, making him the first governor to do so.

The group also said it won endorsements from more House members, making for 60 members of Congress total. The new supporters include these U.S. Representatives: Dusty Johnson (R-SD-At Large), the lead sponsor of H.J. Res. 11; Jim Banks (R-IN-03), House Republican Study Committee Chair; and ranking Republican committee members Tom Cole (R-OK-04) of the Rules Committee, Rodney Davis (R-IL-13) of the House Administration Committee, Virginia Foxx (R-NC-05) of the Education and Labor Committee, and John Katko (R-NY-24) of the Homeland Security Committee.

More than 100 state legislators across the nation have joined the effort to prevent court-packing, introducing resolutions in state legislatures. And, there is a bipartisan group of current and retired state attorneys general involved.

The South Dakota State Senate on Friday voted 29-2 to pass a resolution in support of the Keep Nine Amendment, becoming the first state legislative chamber to do this.

The amendment says:

Yes, Every Kid

“The Supreme Court of the United States shall be composed of nine Justices.”

Keep Nine said in a statement, “We couldn’t be happier with these developments. Everyone, Republican or Democrat, who supports this amendment is supporting a free and independent judiciary.”

Even as lawmakers sign on board with Keep Nine, the organization is fighting Big Tech censorship.

The Georgia Star News last week reported that Google suspended the group’s ads.

Members of the Georgia House of Representatives last month submitted a resolution that asks the U.S. Congress “to reject any and all actions to increase the number of justices on the United States Supreme Court,” The Star News reported. This joins efforts in states like Arizona to prevent court-packing.

Meanwhile, Keep Nine reports that it commissioned polling showing that a 62-18 percent majority of Americans say they would support the amendment.

Keep Nine said, “Preserving the integrity of the Supreme Court is a winning issue. Any Republican or Democrat who endorses the Keep Nine Amendment is promising their constituents that they will not allow the Supreme Court to become politicized. They are promising to never allow the Court to become a pawn in vindictive, partisan games. We welcome anyone who wants to support the effort to safeguard the Supreme Court, and we invite every Senator, House member, governor, other statewide official, state legislator, mayor, and local official to join us.”

Sadly, if only all these people had fought just as hard for a free and fair election, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.
