Omar: ‘We’re Sending Money to Less People than Trump’

by  Anthony Gockowski

Rep. Ilhan Omar said she is disappointed that Democrats are “ultimately sending money to less people than the Trump administration.”

The $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package passed Saturday by the U.S. Senate includes $1,400 stimulus checks for individuals making up to $75,000 and married couples with a joint income of up to $150,000. Unlike the two previous relief bills — which included $600 and $1,200 stimulus payments — higher-income earners won’t receive partial checks.

“I see it as a really disappointing development. We obviously are now ultimately sending money to less people than the Trump administration and the Senate majority Republicans,” Omar told CNN Friday night.

“This is not the promise that we made. This is not what we are given the opportunity to be in the majority in the Senate and to have the White House. And so ultimately it is a failure when we compromise ourselves out of delivering on behalf of the American people and keeping our promises,” Omar continued.

She claimed the income caps in the current bill will prevent 17 million people who previously received payments from receiving a stimulus check.

“The last checks that we were able to send had given 17 million more people than what we will ultimately do with the caps now, and that is going to be something that we’re going to have to explain,” Omar added.

President Joe Biden said in January that Americans would receive $2,000 checks “immediately” if Democrats were to win both Senate races in the Georgia runoffs, which they did.

Maybe, instead, there could be an accounting for al the money that DOESN”T go directly to the American people at large?

  2. Tim Price

Democrats don’t care about anyone but themselves and their pet projects!

I understand that a family of 4 in Mass with one parent on unemployment can garner over $50K from this boondoggle. So, Omar, tell me again how this sham of a “relief” bill is helping fewer people BUT at a much higher cost.
