Georgia U.S. Rep. Rick Allen’s Amendments to Cut Spending Rejected

U.S. Rep. Rick Allen (R-GA-12) has sounded the alarm bell over what he calls wasteful and excessive spending at the federal level, but his pleas to trim the budget went unheeded.

Allen, on the floor of the House, criticized Democrats for what he called “a bloated spending package.”

“It’s past time we tighten the purse strings in Washington. There is no doubt that we are in the midst of a [Joe] Biden economic crisis thanks to wasteful Washington spending. Just this morning I hosted a telephone town hall, and I asked my constituents in Georgia’s 12th District if they are feeling the impact of Biden’s inflation. An overwhelming 93 percent said they are paying for everyday goods, and they have less money. Every week,” Allen said.

“This inflation is a result of Biden’s and congressional Democrats’ spending spree, and here we are debating more irresponsible and unrealistic spending that will do more to harm the pocketbooks of American families. When in the history of civilization has any nation survived this insane spending, and it’s not sustainable? Families work hard to live within their means and manage their household budget, and it’s a dereliction of duty as elected officials to keep spending money that we don’t have. While many American families are surfing now due to the rise in inflation, our future generations are the ones who will also eventually have to pay the price.”

Allen told his constituents in a newsletter this month that Democrats “only want to fund themselves and their radical priorities, ignoring the national security and immigration crises.”

“I introduced amendments to make cuts to certain federal agencies and spoke during debate on the House floor in support of amendments offered by U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern (R-OK-01) to rein in federal spending by cutting 20 percent to each division, excluding security funding,” Allen said in his newsletter.

“Unfortunately, these amendments were rejected.”
