Representative Jody Hice (R-GA-10) this week blasted President Joe Biden and other Democrats for asking the nation’s largest energy producers to reduce their energy production, all while energy prices continue to rise.
Hice made his remarks during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing.
“The Democrats and their friends in the media have morphed what is considered a worst-case climate scenario into what is today considered a most likely and sure-to-happen tomorrow kind of scenario, and it’s all about the purposes of justifying an array of liberal and socialist wish list priorities such as the Green New Deal,” Hice said.
“Unfortunately, Democrats have shamelessly scared and frightened an entire generation of children into fearing that the entire end of the world is just upon us. One of our colleagues said that we only have 11 years left to save the planet. Are you kidding me?”
Hice said that Democrats want to ignore the United States reducing carbon emissions while China has increased its emissions. He said that China’s emissions now double those of the United States and now produce a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions globally.
“The Biden administration had no problem killing the Keystone Pipeline but at the same time no problem willing to establish Nord Stream 2,” Hice said.
“Let give Putin and the Russians everything they need, including economic and political leverage over Europe. What kind of Russian collusion was involved in that deal? Yet the Biden administration cannot escape the fact that the United States’ economy still relies on oil and gas for basic necessities, and yet their plan is let’s decrease our own energy independence while increasing reliance upon some of the world’s most unstable countries. And now these companies we are talking to today are being villainized and being begged by the Biden administration to help reduce energy prices. The hypocrisy is insane.”
Nord Stream 2, according to the global energy company Gazprom, is a new export gas pipeline running from Russia to Europe across the Baltic Sea.
In 2019, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY-14) released the Green New Deal resolution. The resolution calls for “10-year national mobilizations” to fight global warming.
A separate factsheet claims the plan would “mobilize every aspect of American society on a scale not seen since World War II.” That includes getting all our energy needs from “clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources” by “dramatically expanding and upgrading existing renewable power sources.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s non-binding resolution calls for a variety of social justice and welfare state goals, including “a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations and retirement security” and “high-quality health care” benefits for Americans. The resolution also calls for “repairing historic oppression” among certain groups, including minorities, immigrants, women, low-income workers, indigenous people and youth collectively called “frontline and vulnerable communities.”
