Former President Trump Responds to David Perdue’s Gubernatorial Primary Challenge

Former President Donald Trump on Monday responded to former U.S. Senator David Perdue launching a Georgia gubernatorial campaign.

The campaign, a GOP primary challenge against incumbent Governor Brian Kemp, follows routine attacks from Trump against Kemp.

“Wow, it looks like highly respected Senator David Perdue will be running against RINO Brian Kemp for Governor of Georgia. David was a great Senator, and he truly loves his State and his Country. This will be very interesting, and I can’t imagine that Brian Kemp, who has hurt election integrity in Georgia so badly, can do well at the ballot box (unless the election is rigged, of course). He cost us two Senate seats and a Presidential victory in the Great State of Georgia,” Trump said in a statement.

Trump has consistently contended that Kemp and Secretary of State Brad Ratffensperger did not protect the state’s election.

The contest is likely to grow increasingly negative, despite Kemp and Perdue’s past relationship. Previously, Perdue endorsed Kemp for the position.

In a video announcing his candidacy, Perdue claimed that Kemp would not be able to defeat Democrat Stacy Abrams, who also recently announced her campaign for the top position.

Cody Hall, a campaign spokesperson for Kemp, blasted Perdue’s announcement, highlighting his failed campaign against Senator Jon Ossoff.

“A+ rollout here. 1) Use the same method of candidate to camera ad that got you smoked by a 30-something with no business experience. 2) Blame your two election losses on someone who wasn’t even on the ballot, but did dozens of campaign events/fundraisers for you,” Hall said in a tweet.

Furthermore, Kemp has been facing a primary challenge from former Democrat state Representative Vernon Jones for months. Jones also blasted Perdue’s announcement, sharing a picture of the former lawmaker embracing Kemp.
