Hamilton County Commissioner Greg Martin Appointed as Interim State Representative for House District 26 Seat

Hamilton County Commissioners Hamilton County appointed Commissioner Greg Martin Wednesday as the new interim state representative for District 26.

Martin resigned from the commission after being named as the interim state representative.

“I am looking forward to listening to the people of our district in order to advocate for their interest in Nashville,” Martin said in a statement following his appointment. “I hope to earn THE PEOPLE’S vote on August 4th.”

For the time being, Martin will fill former State Representative Robin Smith’s empty seat. The Tennessee Star previously reported Smith vacated the House District 26 seat following her indictment on federal wire fraud charges.

“Congratulations to newly appointed Greg Martin, interim Rep for TN 26th State House district seat,” Hamilton County Government wrote in a tweet following Martin’s appointment. “He stated at today’s commission meeting that he is ready to go to Nashville to represent the voters of House 26 for the remainder of this term. We wish him well in Nashville.”

On March 15th, Martin announced his candidacy for the full term and primary in May despite his appointment this week.

Yes, Every Kid

In a Facebook post, Martin wrote, “Today, I’m announcing I’m a candidate to run for election in the Republican primary to represent my friends, neighbors and community in our State Capital. Over the past ten years of public service, I’ve learned many things which will help me represent the voters of House District 26, such as balancing a budget, making hard decisions about competing priorities and working towards one goal – what is best for the people I represent. There is no higher calling than to represent and serve the public. The voters who have elected me three times know they can trust me to vote our conservative values.”
