Giffords Endorses Democrat in High-Profile Pennsylvania Gubernatorial Race

A far-left gun control group based in Arizona Thursday endorsed Pennsylvania’s lieutenant governor, who is also the state’s Democrat nominee for governor in this year’s election.

“For years, @JohnFetterman has been a powerful voice for Pennsylvanians who have lost their lives to gun violence, and I have no doubt that he will continue this fight in the Senate. I am proud to back Lt. Gov. Fetterman in his bid for US Senate,” Gabrielle Giffords said in a Thursday tweet.

Giffords is the founder of a group called Giffords, which advocates for gun control.

Giffords, a former congresswoman, was the target of an attempted assassination in 2011. She is married to U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ).

Fetterman acknowledged the endorsement.

“I am *so* deeply honored to receive @GiffordsCourage’s official endorsement. Thank you. My proudest accomplishment as Mayor of Braddock was going 5 ½ years without the loss of life due to gun violence. I am proud to work with @GabbyGiffords in the fight for a safer America,” he said.

Yes, Every Kid

Giffords has endorsed anti-Second Amendment candidates in swing districts and states across the country, as previously reported by The Arizona Sun Times.

It endorsed incumbent Representative Susan Wild (D-PA-07) in March.

“In office she has supported countless lifesaving bills and resolutions, including the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and the Violence Against Women Act,” the organization said in a press release at the time.

Another endorsee is Rep. Elaine Luria (D-VA-02), who will fight to keep her seat in a hotly-contested congressional district on the eastern shore of Virginia.

“In the House, Representative Luria has supported legislation to expand background checks to all gun sales, prohibit the possession or transfer of large-capacity magazines, and allow family members and law enforcement officers to petition a judge to keep firearms out of the hands of those determined to be a danger to themselves or others,” the press release said.
