Governor DeWine Leads Democrat Challenger by Double Digits, Poll Shows

A new poll from Suffolk University and the USA Today Network showed incumbent Governor Mike DeWine with a large lead over his Democratic challenger, Nan Whaley.

According to the survey, DeWine secured 45 percent of the vote, compared to Whaley’s 30 percent. Independent candidate Neil Petersen collected 15 percent.

If the pattern is true and holds until Election Day, Governor DeWine would easily secure another four years as the top executive in Columbus.

“It is an honor and a privilege to be nominated by Republican voters to serve Ohio! @JonHusted and I are going to keep fighting and WINNING for Ohio. Thank you,” DeWine said after a GOP primary victory.

However, in order to make it to the general election, DeWine was forced to fend off a GOP challenge from former Congressman Jim Renacci and Joe Blystone. DeWine beat Renacci, his closest challenger, by roughly 20 points.

“Congratulations to Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted on their strong victory tonight. Ohio Republicans look forward to voters across the Buckeye State rallying around their steadfast leadership to, once again, win the Governor’s Office in November,“ added Chairman Bob Paduchik, Ohio Republican Party.

Similarly, The Ohio Star reported that Ohio Senate candidate J.D. Vance, who has been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, holds a lead over Democrat Tim Ryan.

“The USA Today Network Ohio/Suffolk University survey shows Vance leading Ryan by roughly 2 percentage points among likely Ohio voters, within the survey having a margin of error of 4.4 percentage points. Vance received the support of 41.6% percent of respondents, compared to 39.4% for Ryan, in their bid to win the seat of retiring GOP Sen. Rob Portman,” the report detailed.

The Democratic candidates may also be bogged down by President Biden’s poor job approval rankings and record-high gas prices.
