NRA Political Victory Fund Endorses Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson for Re-Election

The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) endorsed Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) for re-election on Thursday.

In addition to the endorsement the NRA-PVF gave Johnson an “A+” rating for both his voting record and his response to its legislative survey.

Johnson told The Tennessee Star he was “tremendously honored” to receive the NRA’s endorsement.

“I’m a lifetime member of the NRA. I view them as the premier organization standing for and defending our Second Amendment rights. I’m proud to have their endorsement,” said Johnson.

In his attempt for re-election, Johnson will face off against Gary Humble in the Republican primary, which will occur on August 4.

Johnson represents Senate District 27, which consists of part of Williamson County.

According to Johnson’s website, he “was first elected to the Tennessee State Senate in 2006. Since his first day in office he has proudly represented Tennessean’s conservative values. Jack knows that conservative values are Tennessee values, which is why he always fights to lower taxes, defend constitutional rights, secure our southern border, protect our most vulnerable and ensure parents’ always have a voice in their children’s education.”

Johnson’s campaign website additionally says that he “was proud to cast his first vote in the Senate for the first Republican Lieutenant Governor in 140 years.  After only two years, he was appointed as Chairman of the Government Operations Committee.  A year later, he was named Chairman of the Commerce and Labor Committee.  He served as Commerce Committee Chairman for nine years until December of 2018, when he was elected by his Republican colleagues as the Senate Majority Leader.”

According to the NRA-PVF website, its mission statement reads:

The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is NRA’s political action committee. The NRA-PVF  ranks political candidates – irrespective of party affiliation – based on voting records, public statements and their responses to an NRA-PVF questionnaire.

NRA relies on a very simple premise: when provided with the facts, the nation’s elected officials will recognize that “gun control” schemes are an infringement on the Second Amendment and a proven failure in fighting crime. The importance of this premise lies in the knowledge that, as one U.S. Congressman put it: “The gun lobby is people.”

The NRA has uses a very narrow focus when endorsing candidates. For example, the NRA routinely endorsed Sen. Harry Reid (NV) who was one of the most socialist partisan hacks in the Democrat Party. So, Jack getting this endorsement means nothing.

I’d rather look at Jack’s tax and spend policy. He pushed and voted for a gas tax increase when the state had a $2 Billion surplus. And right around that time Deana (his wife) was appointed to a judgeship by Gov Haslam. Coincidence? I think not.

Correct. The NRA specifically states that their only political purpose is to defend Second Amendment rights. This is a bad endorsement.

I-65 between Franklin and downtown Nashville is the most fussed-over, pampered stretch of roadway in this state, thanks to a critical mass of bigwigs that live in Franklin. How do you expect that level of care to be maintained without a big fat tax increase?
