Shelby County Assistant District Attorney Arrested, Charged with DUI

Shelby County Assistant District Attorney Monica Timmerman was recently arrested on DUI charges after crashing into a utility pole in a single car accident in Memphis.

Law enforcement charged Timmerman with driving under the influence; failure to exercise due care; and duty upon striking a highway fixture, according to inmate booking database information. Timmerman was arrested and booked into the Shelby County Jail East on December 7th. She was released from prison the following day after posting a $1,000 bond.

Timmerman was taken into custody around 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, December 7th near the intersection of Poplar Avenue and East Parkway North, according to court documents cited by FOX 13 Memphis. Timmerman told law enforcement she was coming from the district attorney office’s holiday party at Blue Monkey, where guests were responsible for purchasing their own drinks, the news outlet notes.

Timmerman told law enforcement that she drank vodka and Sprite at the office holiday party. She had slurred speech and was unable to tell police what had happened or where she was when police arrived, FOX 13 reported.

Timmerman was sworn in as Assistant District Attorney (ADA) in November where she handles cases in Shelby County’s Mental Health Court and Criminal Court 2, according to a tweet by the district attorney’s office.

In a statement, the district attorney’s office acknowledged the incident surrounding Timmerman, saying, “The SCDAG Office is aware of the incident involving ADA Timmerman. We acknowledge that a DUI is a serious matter. ADA Timmerman is still employed with the SCDAG Office. Because this is an active case we cannot comment further; we will let the justice process run its course. Meanwhile, DA Mulroy will recuse the office from the case and seek a pro tem appointment of an independent prosecutor.”

What? A Shelby County official getting arrested for DUI? That while the county is run by a bunch of out and out crooks. Just does not seem fair to me.

Its easy to become intoxicated at a party but everyone should be responsible enough not drive in said condition. But she should be held responsible for her actions.
