A new Democratic-led Congressional caucus focused on energy and housing appears to have employed multiple frequently-used GOP policy points in its introductory press release Thursday.
The bipartisan Build America Caucus‘ creation was spurred in part by its chair, Democratic California Rep. Josh Harder (pictured here), and some other Democrats’ efforts to fix their “post-2024 message” and recognize the “potential failure of governance in blue cities and states,” Politico reported. In a press release, Harder’s office bills the caucus as “pro-growth” and supportive of “unleashing American energy” and “cutting red tape,” policy positions frequently echoed by Republican lawmakers and the administration of President Donald Trump.

The condemnation occurred in a Wednesday meeting of the Metro Public Health and Safety Committee, when Nashville Director of Law Wally Dietz explained that Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) had no advanced knowledge of the traffic stops and arrests made starting on May 3 until the following day.

Despite being acquitted by the Tennessee journey, Tadarrius Bean, Demetrius Haley, and Justin Smith nonetheless face years in prison after the federal trial over Nichols’ death last year. Bean and Smith were found guilty of witness tampering, and now face up to 20 years in prison, while Haley was additionally found guilty of witness tampering and civil rights violations, which could result in a life sentence.

Jeffrey Rupnow, 42, was arrested at about 3:45 a.m., MPD announced Thursday, revealing the father was charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a child, and two counts of providing a dangerous weapon to a person under 18 resulting in death.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona announced on Friday in a press release that immigration related criminal charges against 287 defendants were brought within 10 days, April 26 through May 5. Part of the Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration, known as Operation Take Back America (OTBA), the charges were for entering the country illegally, reentering the country illegally, and human smuggling.
The office has been steadily bringing illegal immigration related charges against defendants since OTBA launched in March. Some of the previous weeks have surpassed the average weekly numbers during the Biden administration last year. Between April 12-18, the office brought 329 charges, far more than the weekly average under President Joe Biden last year of 250 charges per week.
