Conservative National Legislative Group Launches New Task Force to Implement Election Integrity

ALEC National Chair Patricia Puertas Rucker and CEO Lisa B. Nelson

The conservative American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) launched a new task force to address election integrity earlier this month. ALEC drafts model legislation for state legislators to propose around the country, such as the Safeguard American Votes and Election Act stopping Ranked Choice Voting, and its new Process and Procedures Task Force intends to expand these efforts.

West Virginia Senator Patricia Rucker, the chair of ALEC, and Lisa B. Nelson, Chief Executive Officer of ALEC, published an op-ed in the Daily Caller on Wednesday announcing the task force. In an article titled, “We’re Going To Protect Elections Whether The Left Likes It Or Not,” they said the task force will “develop trusted policy solutions to ensure elections work for the American people.”

California’ Lawsuit over Trump Tariffs Goes Down in Flames

Trump and California AG

A U.S. District Court judge on Monday dismissed California’s lawsuit against President Donald Trump’s tariffs, ruling that the case belongs in the New York-based U.S. Court of International Trade (CIT).

The ruling on Monday marks a partial win for the Trump administration, which had requested that the lawsuit be transferred to the CIT instead of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, where California officials had filed the lawsuit. Still, Judge Jacqueline Scott Corley’s decision to dismiss the lawsuit opens the floodgates for California to have a chance to appeal the ruling to the liberal-leaning U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

Trump Administration Strips Federal Protections for Emergency Abortion Providers

Axios   The Trump administration on Tuesday rescinded guidance telling health providers who perform abortions in emergency cases that they’re protected under federal law, despite any bans that might exist in their states. The directive was issued by the Biden administration to give legal assurances to physicians and other providers facing questions about what qualifies as an emergency under a state ban. Since then, courts have grappled with how state restrictions and federal directives on emergency health care mesh. The Supreme Court last year dismissed a case surrounding Idaho’s ban without ruling on the merits. READ THE FULL STORY

Commentary: The Faux Science of Outlawing Fossil Fuels

science lab

The recent Nature article, “Carbon Majors and the Scientific Case for Climate Liability,” tries to further the alarmists’ dream of pinning alleged harms of “extreme” weather on the world’s largest producers of fossil fuels.

Christopher W. Callahan and Justin S. Mankin, both at Dartmouth College when their article was prepared, accept—without substantiation—climate activists’ position that industrial emissions of carbon dioxide cause catastrophic warming and perpetuate the demonization of oil and gas companies as global villains. Instead of casting light on the climate issue, the authors attempt to provide a blueprint for a “coming wave of climate legal action’ for which courts are woefully unprepared.”
