Commentary: Trump’s Mineral Policy Offers Strategic Opportunity in the Pacific

In an April 2025 executive order, President Trump affirmed that offshore critical minerals are key to creating supply chains that do not depend on adversaries like the People’s Republic of China. While US leadership on deep-sea mining directly serves the nation’s resource needs, it also brings mutually-beneficial partnerships with other nations. Such relationships would not only reduce China’s dominance over the minerals industry, but could also be leveraged to combat China’s expanding foothold in the Indo-Pacific.

In building the partnerships that will transform America into a leader on seabed mining, the Trump administration should make Nauru a priority.

Planned Parenthood Vows to Sue Trump Admin over Funding Cuts in Spending Bill, Warns of Closures

Abortion provider Planned Parenthood vowed to sue the Trump administration over cuts to funding contained in the the president’s signature legislation that the group says could result in significant closures. 

The provisions contained in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act prohibits abortion providers from receiving Medicaid funding for up to one year for any other reproductive health services they may provide. The organization called the legislation an “unlawful” and “targeted attack.”

Commentary: The Big Beautiful Bill Secures Trump’s Biggest Win Yet

For a while, it looked like it might be one, big, beautiful mess, but now Congress has officially enacted, H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, fulfilling Republicans’ legislative agenda on tax cuts, the border and immigration enforcement that President Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans campaigned on in 2024 that swept them into majorities.

The final votes were 51 to 50 in the Senate, with Vice President J.D. Vance casting the tie-breaking vote, and 218 to 214 in the House after weeks and months of preparation, drafting and debate. Now the work is done. The job is finished.
