DNC Panel Features ‘Mermaid Queen-King’ Who Calls for the Abolition of ICE, Police, and Prisons

by Debra Heine

The Democratic National Convention on Tuesday featured a panelist who identifies as a “nonbinary/gender transcendent mermaid Queen-King” and who called for the abolition of the police, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and prisons.

According to the panelist’s Wake Forest University bio, J Mai is a “Black-Vietnamese, transgender nonbinary/gender transcendent mermaid Queen-King,” who recently became a “licensed minister in the Progressive National Baptist Church.”

J. Mai made the extreme comments during a DNC LGBTQ caucus meeting.

“Why can’t folks imagine a world without the cops? Why can’t folks imagine a world without prisons? Why can’t people expand their imaginations to include community care, to include an abolitionist future?” the self-avowed “mermaid Queen-King” said.

J Mai stressed that she was talking about real abolition, not a watered-down version.

“We’re talking about abolishing the police, we’re talking about abolishing ICE, we’re talking about abolishing prisons,” J Mai said.

J Mai works at the LGBTQ Center at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.

According to her bio, “J Mai (they/them) is a Black-Vietnamese, transgender nonbinary/gender transcendent mermaid Queen-King currently living out their ever-evolving truths in Winston-Salem, NC. A recently licensed minister in the Progressive National Baptist Church, J received their Bachelors in Sociology and Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies at Wake Forest University and is currently working towards a Masters in Divinity at Wake Forest University School of Divinity.”

“Calm down, people. This is one person’s point of view. They don’t speak for the entire Democratic Party, ”
This is a mentally unstable person who appears to be on drugs. They have been featured in a very poorly produced Zoom-ish call in the Democratic National Convention–the masthead and public face of the Democratic Party. That is what is important in this particular segment. It isn’t just someone who is different, it is someone who is mad and we are being forced to accept them as sane. Instead of celebrating these people, the compassionate thing to do would be to get them some mental help to learn to like and eventually love themselves. People with healthy self-respect do not parade their neurosis on the national stage and organizations that care about humans do not treat them as sideshow performers.

Calm down, people. This is one person’s point of view. They don’t speak for the entire Democratic Party, most of whom still support having police departments. The difference is we want to end police brutality. A world without any law and enforcement is anarchy and Democrats don’t support that anymore than Republicans.
As far as this person’s identity – yes, it is a little strange. But think about it. We’ve always had people who were different, who didn’t fit the norm, in this world. Read some history and you’ll find out. This person isn’t going to change your world, so relax.

Calm Down?? A group of people who sat (and has continued to sit) in a corner sucking their thumb and crying because they didn’t get their way – is telling us to calm down? A group of people who continue to be as destructive as possible at every turn to make themselves feel better – is telling us to calm down? A group of people that are tearing down statues of the people who defended the right for you and your mermaid friend to be whomever you would like to be – or whomever you “identify” with in the moment – is telling us to read some history? Angela – you are celebrating another person’s point of view while turning a blind eye to the fact that the democratic party, of which you apparently partake, are doing their best to silence the points of view of those with whom they don’t agree by attacking, spitting and yelling (to say the VERY least) and you have the audacity to say “calm down” “relax?” Wake up! Your party IS supporting a world without “law and enforcement” and anarchy!! Look around! Cities are being burned and lives destroyed while the representatives from YOUR PARTY sit on their hands because they ARE SUPPORTING A WORLD WITHOUT “LAW AND ENFORCEMENT!” Why else would they let this continue????? Why don’t you go clean up all of the stinking piles of s*** in your own backyard – before you tell us to relax and calm down! I and MANY, MANY OTHERS are tired of SMELLING IT!

The time for being politically correct is OVER. Look where it got us!
Time to call things and people out for who and what they are. J Mai needs professional help. J Mai has a Gender Identity Disorder according to the highly respected and followed psychologist’s handbook, DSM-III-R. Nothing changed since it was published except wishful thinking. If you are a transgender or struggling to figure out what gender you are, you need help. We don’t need help. You do. This doesn’t make you a bad person. It simply means you need help and you have a much greater chance of committing suicide if you don’t get it. J Mai is ill. She/He/It needs help!

If it weren’t for academia these people would be unemployable.

I self-identify as a straight conservative Christian white male. Anyone claiming to be a mermaid queen-king whatever needs professional help & a lot of it.

But wait! I thought this was the party of “the rule of law” and “no one is above the law” to quote their oft repeated mantra several months back. Yet they propose to NOT enforce immigration laws discriminating for those who break those laws and “defund the police” to aid and abet the dangerous lawlessness we see everyday in the cities and states against law-abiding citizens under their control.

I don’t know if it’s a he or a she, but whatever it is, it sounds really confused.

Ask any Computer Programmer or Statistician. They’ll explain the concept of “Garbage In – Garbage Out.” What you put into the model has a lot to do with what sort of results you get out of it.

This is the sort of input that the democrats feel is needed for making policy…

A Bachelors degree in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies?

Wake Forest used to be a respectable university. Not one of the best, not even in the top 50, but still a school where one could get a decent education. These are the depths to which it has now fallen.

Yes. I grew up in Winston-Salem and have taken a couple of courses there. I always thought they had such high standards. Now a scholar can call themselves a “mermaid” and they get respect.

      1. not just a mermaid, a mermaid queen-king.
