The Associated Press The U.S. Department of Justice sued Oklahoma on Tuesday seeking to block a law that seeks to impose criminal penalties on those living in the state illegally. The lawsuit in federal court in Oklahoma City challenges a law that makes it a state crime — punishable by up to two years in prison — to live in Oklahoma without legal immigration status. Similar laws passed in Texas and Iowa already are facing challenges from the Justice Department. Oklahoma is among several GOP states jockeying to push deeper into immigration enforcement as both Republicans and Democrats seize on the issue. Breitbart Arch-globalist and head of the World Economic Forum Klaus Schwab has reportedly informed staff that he will be stepping down as WEF executive chairman. The 86-year-old self-appointed Sultan of Davos sent an email to staff on Tuesday announcing that he will no longer run the world’s most prominent globalist advocacy group although he will likely stay on in some non-executive role, the website Semafor claimed. A WEF spokesman told the website that the Forum will be changing its governance structure and that as a result, Schwab “will transition from Executive Chairman to Chairman of the Board of Trustees” by the start of next year. The Washington Times  House Speaker Mike Johnson is ready to invite embattled Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address Congress, and is tired of waiting for Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer to join in on his invitation. Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, has planned to invite Mr. Netanyahu to give an address to both chambers of Congress since March. For that to happen, Mr. Schumer must sign onto a joint invitation from the leaders of both chambers. But Mr. Schumer, New York Democrat and the highest-ranking Jewish official in Congress, has so far not signed the invitation that the speaker sent to his office in April. The Hill Columbia University’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences approved a vote of no confidence Thursday against university President Minouche Shafik over her handling of the recent pro-Palestinian protests on campus.   The vote, organized by the school’s chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), won with a 65 percent majority, though it has no real power against Shafik.     The AAUP chapter released a statement highlighting the frustrations the group has with Shafik such as agreeing during a recent congressional hearing to fire a particular faculty member and ultimately bringing in the police to clear student protesters.  READ THE FULL STORY                   

Axios The Biden administration announced Thursday that it has taken the next step to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug under federal law. Initiating the process to reclassify cannabis from a Schedule I to a less dangerous Schedule III drug is the first step to make the major policy change President Biden announced last month a reality. The Attorney General submitted a proposed rulemaking to the Federal Register that launches the formal process to consider reclassifying marijuana under the Controlled Substances Act, the Justice Department said.
