The Minnesota Freedom Fund has continued in their trend of bailing out criminals from the justice system by bailing out a convicted domestic assault perpetrator days before he murdered a man on an onramp onto a highway. According to tweets from Crime Watch Minneapolis, a man by the name of George Howard was bailed out of jail by the Minnesota Freedom Fund on, after being briefly imprisoned on a domestic assault charge.

The letter also specifically says that they should not offer exemptions for those that are pregnant.

Several Minnesota legislators responded to an upcoming visit from members of the “Squad” that will be taking place on Friday afternoon.  According to a press release from Representative Ilhan Omar’s (D-05-MN) office, they are planning to speak out against Line 3.

Representatives Michelle Fischbach (R-07-MN), Pete Stauber (R-08-MN), and Tom Emmer (R-06-MN) issued a statement saying that Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-05-MN), Cori Bush (D-01-MO), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-14-NY), Ayanna Pressley (D-07-MA), and Rashida Tlaib (D-13-MI) are “seeking soundbites.”

Wisconsin Representative Calls United States Department of Agriculture Masking Requirement in Small Town Meat Plant ‘Absurd’

Wisconsin Representative Thomas Tiffany (R-07-WI) said that the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) demand that employees at a small Wisconsin meat processing plant wear masks “absurd.” As was reported by Empower Wisconsin, the USDA warned Nolechek’s Meats that they would not conduct any inspections unless all employees were properly masked. Not having it’s products inspected would mean that the plant would lose any out-of-state business.

Minnesota Senator Tina Smith tweeted out Wednesday, criticizing the Supreme Court’s decision regarding a Texas abortion ban. Smith called the decision a “direct attack on Roe.” Smith said that she’s not “blind” to what is being done. She said, “I used to work at Planned Parenthood, not blind to what’s happening here.” Smith called the law unconstitutional saying they are going to “fight it.”

Minnesota State Senate majority leader Paul Gazelka stepped down on Wednesday in what some are saying is a likely precursor to entering into the race for governor. A statement from Gazelka said that he will be a part of Minnesota’s “future success” as he pursues “the next chapter” in his “political life.” Gazelka has held the majority leader position for five years. His letter, announcing his stepping down from the position, listed his accomplishments. He said that, “These accomplishments were possible because we stuck to our principles and communicated directly with the people of Minnesota.”

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – Around 150 Stop Line 3 protesters unlawfully gathered outside of the Governor’s Mansion on Saturday afternoon. The protesters blocked Summit Avenue in St. Paul where the Governor’s Mansion is located and hung signs on the surrounding fences. Other protesters blocked entrances and exits to the house, sitting with their arms linked.

Thousands Gathered at Medical Freedom Rally at Minnesota State Capitol

ST. PAUL, Minnesota – Thousands gathered at a medical freedom rally on the steps of the Minnesota state capitol on Saturday. Estimates ranged from 3,000 to 5,000 participants.

Many protesters held signs saying things like “Stop the mandate” and “My body, my choice.” Others wore shirts that had phrases that stated “Health is not mandated” and “Medical freedom.”

Shelby County Sues Gov. Bill Lee over Mask Executive Order

Shelby County has announced a lawsuit against Tennessee Governor Bill Lee (R) over his executive order allowing parents to opt their children out of mask mandates. The county says that the order puts children at risk of contracting COVID and even dying.

The complaint, filed Tuesday, says that “Governor Lee’s executive order makes the maintenance and support of a system of free public schools impossible.” The lawsuit opens by stating that Shelby County is in the middle of a “global pandemic, the likes of which the world has not seen in over a century.”

Minnesota Launches Program to Help Students Struggling to Meet Educational Standards

Minnesota is launching a program to help students struggling to meet educational standards after a year of “education disruption” due to COVID. The program is called Collaborative Minnesota Partnerships to Advance Student Success (COMPASS) and will be providing students individualized support in struggle areas.

The press release from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) reads that the program will “accelerate learning by meeting students’ academic, social-emotional and mental health needs as Minnesota school communities continue to navigate the pandemic.”

An independent from Minneapolis has announced his run for Hennepin County Sheriff. Jai Hanson, a police officer, is hoping to make positive changes in Hennepin County and specifically in Minneapolis. Hanson is not seeking an endorsement from any political parties because he wants to be a true independent. He said he wants to be “part of the solution” and make policing about people rather than politics.

Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig, who has formed an exploratory committee for governor of Michigan, came in third in a Wayne County Republican straw poll this week.

Detroit, where Craig served, is the largest city in Wayne County and the state of Michigan. Craig’s exploratory video emphasizes the lack of riots that took place in Detroit in 2020, taking partial responsibility for the rebuilding of the Detroit Police Department. Craig says that Michigan needs more politicians who are willing to “lead from the front,” leading by example.

Jennifer Carnahan, the Chair of the Minnesota GOP, resigned Thursday night after allegations of harassment, abuse and ties to a child sex trafficker came to light. Carnahan is the wife of Representative Jim Hagedorn (R-MN-01).

Allegations harassment and workplace abuse began being anonymously posted on social media after the indictment of Anton Lazzaro, a long-time GOP donor and political activist, on child sex trafficking charges. Reportedly, Lazzaro had a long time relationship and friendship with former GOP Chair Carnahan, and was even invited to Hagedorn and Carnahan’s wedding.

When pressed Wednesday, the top health adviser to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) inadvertently admitted the governor is not “following the science,” per her opinion.

“Following the science” has been a staple of Whitmer’s talking points since the COVID pandemic began, but Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, Whitmer’s chief medical adviser, was asked if she recommended Whitmer issue an order requiring masks in schools. Khaldun answered affirmatively, claiming, “it would likely decrease the spread of COVID-19 in schools.”

Representative Mark Green (R-TN) joined the lawsuit over the suspension of the service academy Boards of Visitors. The boards were suspended by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, which Green calls “unacceptable.” Green, a member of the United States Military Academy Board of Visitors and an alumnus from the Military Academy, said that “Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has no authority to suspend the Board of Visitors, and he is violating federal law by doing so.”

Detroit Firearms Instructor Plans Free Gun Training for 4,000 Michigan Women

A Detroit firearms instructor is planning this weekend the largest gun training for women ever in the state.

Rick Ector, who runs Legally Armed in Detroit — or LAID — has held similar events in the past, including one last year that attracted 1,938 participants, but nothing this ambitious.

The two-day mass training will be held Saturday and Sunday, August 21-22 at two gun ranges in Taylor, Michigan: Top Gun Shooting Sports and Recoil Firearms from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is the tenth annual event, with Ector seeing growth each year. The press release stated that the first year of training in 2011 had only 50 participants, which grew to nearly two thousand at the 2020 training.

Five counties in Tennessee are ending vehicle emissions testing. The counties are five out of six total Tennessee counties that require emissions testing on vehicles. According to the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) Commissioner David Salyers, “It’s a recognition of the improvement of our state’s air quality and demonstrates the diligence Tennesseans have shown toward achieving and maintaining this goal.”

Minneapolis Police Department Will Reduce Enforcing Low-Level Traffic Violations to Correct ‘Racial Disparities’

According to an internal memo from Police Chief Medaria Arradondo that was obtained by Bring Me The News, there are three main low-level violations that the Minneapolis Police Department will no longer enforce: “Expired tabs, an item dangling from a mirror, or not having a working license plate light.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced that the COVID vaccine will be required for government employees in Minnesota. If employees choose not to be vaccinated and get an exemption, they will need to undergo weekly COVID testing. The State of Minnesota is the second largest business to require employees to be vaccinated, with over 40,000 employees, second to Mayo Clinic.

Brooklyn Park Mayoral Special Election Decided by One Vote

The Brooklyn Park mayoral special election was decided by one vote, with Lisa Jacobson winning the election with 3,415 votes, beating Hollies Winston who had 3,414 votes. Winston was backed by the Minnesota DFL and Governor Tim Walz. A vote canvass will be held on Friday night, but because the margin of votes was so small, a recount request is expected. The final results of the election will be certified by August 20. Winston said in a statement posted to Facebook that, “In the interest of respecting our democratic process we are going to see this through until the end. Every vote must be counted.”

Minnesota Supreme Court Court Denies Appeal Seeking to Overturn Ruling About Minneapolis Hiring More Police

The Minnesota Supreme Court denied an appeal that was seeking to overturn the ruling requiring Minneapolis to hire more police officers. As reported by The Minnesota Sun, some city attorneys asked “the state Supreme Court to step in and offer an ‘accelerated review’ of the case ruling that ordered the city to hire more police officers. The attorneys are planning to challenge the order requiring Minneapolis to hire at least 730 police officers by next summer, saying it is ‘necessary to clarify the meaning of the provision’ before elections are held in November.”
