Suspect Arrested in Katie Hobbs Burglary Scandal is a Repeat Offender from Angola

Phoenix Police announced on Friday that Daniel Mota Dos Reis, 36, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the burglary of Democrat gubernatorial nominee Katie Hobbs’s campaign headquarters.

“On October 25, 2022, Phoenix Police officers were dispatched to a commercial burglary call in the area of Central Avenue and Virginia Avenue. When officers arrived, they learned from the reporting party that an unknown man broke into their building the night before and stole multiple items,” according to the police report shared with the Arizona Sun Times.

The crime occurred on Monday when surveillance video captured Dos Reis leaving the commercial building in the evening. He reportedly stole an Apple keyboard, an Apple computer mouse, and a black Nikon camera worth $1180 in total. On Wednesday night, a patrol officer saw images of the footage showing Dos Reis, who the officer recognized as a suspect arrested earlier that day for a separate commercial burglary. He was still in jail for that separate crime and was about to be released before the officer contacted the jail, and Dos Reis was re-arrested. The stolen items were then returned.

“Katie Hobbs, sure enough, is a coward. She refuses to debate. She disrespects the people of this state by refusing to debate. She’s willing to make up complete, bogus stories. She knew I had nothing to do with that break-in, and yet she perpetuated that lie. You guys [the media] all fell for it, and she knew you’d fall for it,” Lake said.

Arizona Learning Camp to Help Students Recover from Pandemic Gets Funding for a Second Year

Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) announced Tuesday that the AZ OnTrack Summer Camp (AOTSC) would receive funding for a second year, giving kids another opportunity to catch up on learning lost during the pandemic.

“In light of this barometer of our kids’ success, there’s no time to waste to catch our kids up. We must continue to pour on the gas in our efforts,” said Ducey. “We know our kids lost ground during the pandemic – it was not good for them. Arizona State Senate Will Not Require Public School Students to Receive a COVID-19 Vaccine

The Arizona State Senate has reassured that public school students will not be required to receive a COVID-19 vaccine despite recent recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“This is just another example of how out of touch the federal government and its agencies are with everyday families,” said Senate President Karen Fann (R-Prescott). “With Republicans currently in control of our state government, we can promise that we will never subject Arizonans to the requirement of an experimental vaccine that has raised questions over long-term health implications.”

Arizona School Gets Rid of Homecoming Tradition; Concerned Parents Want It Back

A group of Arizona parents called Concerned Viking Families (CVF) told The Arizona Sun Times that the homecoming king and queen were stripped away from the Sunnyslope High School (SHS) of the Glendale Union High School District (GUHSD). Leah Clark, a teacher at SHS, allegedly made the student council she oversees vote to remove the longstanding tradition to avoid hurting feelings.

“The student council teachers/advisors at Sunnyslope High School (part of Glendale Unified) took it upon herself to demand that her student council class vote on terminating the long standing tradition of Homecoming King/Queen court because it’s not diverse or inclusive and hurts students feelings. And also because it’s hard to have to tell people they’ve lost,” said leaders of the CVF to the Sun Times.

‘Crazy’: CBP Say They Want to Remove Gov. Doug Ducey’s Stopgap Border Wall and Replace with ‘Mesh Fencing’

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said it would be putting up a temporary barrier in areas “previously disrupted by other construction activities” beginning next year, according to a letter shared with the Arizona Sun Times. C.J. Karamargin, Communications Director for Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R), told the Sun Times this is not going to happen.

“Essentially, they’re [the CPB] asking that we re-open the gaps in the border barrier. Not gonna happen,” Karamargin said via the phone.

Arizona’s Graduating Class Average ACT Scores Declined in 2022, Missing College-Readiness Benchmarks

The national average American College Testing (ACT) score for 2022 high school graduates fell to 19. 8 out of 36 in 2022, the lowest average score recorded in over 30 years, and Arizona did not escape this decline either. Arizona’s average score was 18.4 in 2022, over a point worse than last year, and ACT CEO Janet Godwin called the downward movement alarming.

“The magnitude of the declines this year is particularly alarming, as we see rapidly growing numbers of seniors leaving high school without meeting the college-readiness benchmark in any of the subjects we measure,” said ACT CEO Janet Godwin.

Maricopa County Approves New Program to Give Small Businesses a Larger Share of Its Business

Maricopa County announced Monday that the Board of Supervisors approved a new Small Business Advocacy Program (SBAP), which aims to provide these local enterprises with a larger share of county business.

“The program is about making sure that small and local businesses are being given a chance to sell goods and services to the county. The county buys everything from baby diapers to xenon light bulbs, we buy dentists and landscapers, plumbers and engineers – you name it – we probably buy it. It is a Board priority to support small and local businesses, when it makes sense, for purchases that are under $100,000 and not covered under an existing contract,” said the Maricopa County Office of Procurement (MCOP) in an email to the Arizona Sun Times.

Newly unearthed pictures from Arizona’s Democratic gubernatorial nominee, Katie Hobbs’s high school yearbook revealed that the school conducted a ‘Slave Day’ during its spirit week while Hobbs served on the student council board and her opponent Kari Lake said it was just another example of Hobbs’s racist record.

“Katie Hobbs’ record of racism, which already cost Arizona taxpayers $2.75 million after she was twice convicted of racist behavior, goes back to high school. The same Katie Hobbs who paid a woman-of-color $30,000 less than her white male counterparts also thought it appropriate to get involved in a cringe-inducing, racist ‘Slave Day’ and disgustingly celebrated it in her yearbook,” Lake said in a press release. This is a clear disappointing and alarming pattern, but this latest bombshell is beyond the pale. Silence and hiding won’t cut it on this one. Katie Hobbs owes it to every Arizonan to come out of hiding and finally take accountability for her troubling record of racism – and if Katie Hobbs won’t come out of hiding to explain herself, then the media owes it to the people of Arizona to find her.”

Maricopa County Records Highest Number of Heat-Related Deaths Since Beginning Surveillance

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) unveiled its annual heat-associated death report, reporting 339 people in 2021, as the County says it is working to bring this number down.

“MCDPH continues to work with community partners to raise awareness of prevention strategies and to educate the community about heat-related illness. Our community partners and cities and towns have come together to establish cooling centers throughout the county,” said MCDPH Public Health Scientist Dr. Ariella Dale to the Arizona Sun Times. “It is also important that we all check in on our families, friends, and neighbors to ensure their A/C is functioning properly and they have access to cool indoor environments to prevent these tragedies from occurring.”

Chairwoman Dr. Kelli Ward of the Arizona Republican Party (AZGOP) and Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel announced a lawsuit against Maricopa County Tuesday for failing to comply with public records requests (PRR) relating to poll worker staffing.

“After several weeks of negotiations, Maricopa County left us no choice but to sue because Arizonans who want to be poll workers shouldn’t be shut out of the process. With midterms just 35 days away, Arizonans deserve basic transparency about how their elections will be conducted,” said McDaniel and Ward. “This legal offensive is the latest step in Republicans’ ongoing efforts to promote free, fair, and transparent elections in Arizona.”

Attorney General Mark Brnovich Achieves Historic Settlement with Google for $85 Million

Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced an $85 million settlement with tech giant Google LLC in a lawsuit involving the company making a profit by deceptively using users’ locations.

“When I was elected attorney general, I promised Arizonans I would fight for them and hold everyone, including corporations like Google, accountable,” said Brnovich in a press release. “I am proud of this historic settlement that proves no entity, not even big tech companies, is above the law.”

The Goldwater Institute Demands Phoenix Officials Enforce Law in Homeless Encampment ‘The Zone’

The Arizona-based Goldwater Institute (GI) filed an amicus brief in the Superior Court urging an injunction blocking the City of Phoenix from any activity that would maintain a large homeless encampment known locally as ‘The Zone.’

“City leaders have been shunting homeless people into The Zone, and police have reportedly been ordered to take no action to protect the innocent property and business owners located in the area,” said the GI in a statement shared with the Arizona Sun Times. “Hardworking Phoenicians should be able to rely on the public services their tax dollars pay for—and their elected officials owe them a duty to enforce the laws.”

“It is shameful that Katie Hobbs aligned herself with the radical unions’ effort to permanently trap Arizona’s kids in failing schools, then hung Arizona’s parents out to dry for a week by suspending the school choice program despite overwhelming evidence the referendum failed to get enough signatures,” Lake said in a statement to the Arizona Sun Times. “Katie Hobbs is on the side of corrupt, bloated school bureaucracies, but I will never stop fighting to give Arizona’s parents more choice in their children’s schools and more control over their children’s education.”

Maricopa County to Require Press Pass to Cover 2022 Election

Maricopa County announced Tuesday that it will now require a press pass for media personnel to enter its facilities or cover events related to the 2022 General Election.

“Because of logistical and security considerations, it is impossible to give the public and media limitless access to Members of the Board of Supervisors, the County Recorder and election experts for events such as press conferences and availabilities,” according to Maricopa County.

Arizona State Officials Call Upon Katie Hobbs to Reject Universal ESA Law Referendum

Arizona officials are now calling out Secretary of State Katie Hobbs to expedite the signature counting process for the referendum against Arizona’s Universal Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) law, including the bill’s sponsor, State Rep. Ben Toma (R-Maricopa).

“We expect that your office will have formally rejected the referendum petition as legally insufficient no later than the opening of business on Friday morning,” Toma said in a letter to Hobbs. “If the full and effective implementation of H.B. 2853 continues to be obstructed, the Arizona House of Representatives will exercise its constitutional oversight function in order to find facts and ultimately to determine what, if any, legislation may be required to prohibit, deter, and penalize such dishonesty in future campaigns and administrations, and to ensure that the statutory procedures for filing and processing ballot measure petitions cannot be manipulated to enable such misconduct.”

DEA Phoenix Seizes over 8 Million Fentanyl Pills During Operation

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration announced Wednesday that an enforcement operation spanning from May to September seized millions of illicit fentanyl pills.

“On the frontline as we race to save lives, DEA Arizona continues to seize historic amounts of deadly fentanyl,” said Cheri Oz, the Phoenix DEA Special Agent in Charge of the operation. “It is terrifying that the drug cartels are mimicking candy to make fentanyl appear harmless. We need your help spreading the word about the dangers of fentanyl. It’s a matter of life and death.”
