If James is disbarred, it would substantially increase Trump’s chances of defeating James’ prosecution. James seeks to essentially bankrupt Trump by calling for a $370 million fine and a lifetime of earnings from the real estate industry in New York State. James claims Trump committed financial fraud. The Epoch Times A shooter who was killed by off-duty police officers after opening fire at a Houston megachurch while seemingly using a 7-year-old child as a human shield has been identified as a woman named Genesse Moreno, who police said also identified as a man named Jeffrey Escalante. Police said a woman in her early 30s entered Lakewood Church on Feb. 11 wearing a trench coat and backpack, armed with a long rifle, and began firing. Before managing to kill anyone, the shooter was taken down by two off-duty officers, one a Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agent and the other a Houston police officer, according to Houston Police Chief Troy Finner. Post Millennial The individual who walked into Joel Osteen’s Lakewood, Texas church on Sunday, pulled out a gun and opened fire, has been identified as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36. Moreno had a 5-year-old child when entering the church wearing a trenchcoat and opened fire when enterring the church. Local news reports that multiple sources have said that Genesse Ivonne Moreno is suspected of being the “armed woman” who was killed at the church Sunday. Reports indicated that the shooter was female, but it has since been revealed that Moreno was male. Moreno was shot and killed by two off-duty officers. The Epoch Times Trump co-defendant Michael Roman filed a motion on Friday identifying a witness who could testify that Fulton County’s district attorney and a prosecutor she hired began a romantic relationship before they pursued the election case, refuting sworn testimony. In the 122-page filing, Mr. Roman’s lawyer said a former associate of prosecutor Nathan Wade would refute the prosecutor’s timeline of his relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Mike Gallagher, who made news earlier this week with his vote against impeaching Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, announced on Saturday that he won’t run for re-election this year. “The Framers intended citizens to serve in Congress for a season and then return to their private lives. Electoral politics was never supposed to be a career and, trust me, Congress is no place to grow old. And so, with a heavy heart, I have decided not to run for re-election,” Gallagher said in his statement. The National Desk Republican Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte told The National Desk (TND) Monday state officials acted within their legal limitations by removing a child from parents who objected to their transitioning gender identity. Montana Child and Family Services (CFS) officials took custody of the 14-year-old from parents Krista and Todd Kolstad this month, according to Reduxx. The teenager is reportedly a biological female and recently began to express suicidal thoughts. While being treated at a hospital in August, doctors began using the child’s preferred name and pronouns, which do not correspond with the child’s biological sex, according to Reduxx. The Washington Times Conservative activists are recoiling as details leak from the immigration deal being negotiated in the Senate suggesting illegal border crossers will be immediately eligible for work permits and the government will allow up to 5,000 illegal immigrants a day before new expulsion powers kick in. Talks have been going on for weeks and the plans have been tightly guarded by the negotiators, but Rosemary Jenks, government relations director at the Immigration Accountability Project, said she’s been briefed by multiple people familiar with the negotiations and has been sharing details online. She said the current framework includes a right to government-funded lawyers for illegal immigrant children struggling through the immigration courts, and would also expand legal immigration, both priorities for President Biden. Washington Times The Justice Department says its prosecutors are planning to target “thousands” of Jan. 6 protesters who gathered in “restricted” areas around the Capitol three years ago, regardless of whether they participated in violent acts or entered the Capitol building. New York Post An acclaimed African-American scholar who has accused Harvard’s outgoing president Claudine Gay of ripping off her work is demanding to know how the school will fix its approach to plagiarism after it’s board stood by the embattled academic.  Attorneys representing Carol Swain, a former political science professor at Vanderbilt University, sent a letter to the Harvard Corporation, the school’s highest governing body,  requesting to know what “remedies” the Ivy League institution seeks to make for the unauthorized use of her work. “Through its acts, omissions, and public statements surrounding the use of Dr. Swain’s work, the Harvard Corporation is now invested in this matter and its subsequent outcome,” attorney Robert Kleinman wrote on behalf of Swain. According to the outlet, Tuberville was the target of an alleged swatting call at a family-owned residence of Tuberville’s in Auburn on Christmas night.  Swatting involves making a prank call to emergency services to bring a large number of armed police officers or a SWAT team to a particular address. This month, 21-year-old illegal alien Erik Santillan of Mexico has been arrested and charged with aggravated rape after allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl while she was at a friend’s house in 2022. According to police, on June 20, 2022, the girl went to stay at a friend’s house where Santillan was as well. Politico Nikki Haley declined to say that slavery was a cause of the Civil War on Wednesday evening, placing the blame, instead, on the role of government. Newsbusters Shocker! Isaac Schorr at Mediaite reported a new study from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications found that just 3.4 percent of American journalists are Republicans. In the last ten years, the proportion of Democrats has increased to 36.4 percent and proportion of Independents has ticked upwards to 51.7 percent, while the already low Republican share has been cut in half.  The last study in 2013 pegged the proportion of Republican journalists in America at 7.1 percent, Democrats at 28.1 percent, and  Independents at 50.2 percent. Government Executive President Biden on Thursday issued an executive order implementing his plan to provide civilian federal workers with an average 5.2 percent pay raise next month. As first proposed in his fiscal 2024 budget plan last March, the increase amounts to a 4.7 percent across-the-board boost to basic pay, alongside an average 0.5 percent increase in locality pay. As authorized in the fiscal 2024 National Defense Authorization Act, which Biden is expected to sign this week, military service personnel also will see an average 5.2 percent pay raise next year. An average 5.2 percent pay increase marks the largest authorized for federal workers since the Carter administration adopted a 9.1 percent average raise in 1980, as well as a 0.6 percent increase over last year’s raise, which itself marked a 20-year high. As I argued in my co-authored book, “The Adversity of Diversity,” DEI programs are divisive, and many, if not all, of the programs violate our civil rights laws, as well as the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment. Washington Examiner Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) is set to appear at a New Hampshire forum next month, further stoking rumors of a White House bid because the event is typically reserved for presidential candidates. Manchin will speak at the “Politics & Eggs” event hosted by the New England Council and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics on Jan. 12, sparking continued speculation that the West Virginia Democrat could be considering a last-minute presidential run next year. Manchin has left the door open to a White House bid, telling CNN last month he is considering a run but has not made a final decision. Manchin will attend the event to begin his new organization’s national listening tour. The San Francisco Chronicle reported: Hundreds of protesters gathered among holiday crowds in San Francisco’s central shopping district Saturday to call for an end to hostilities between Hamas and Israel, as well as for charges to be dropped against demonstrators who shut down the Bay Bridge last month. Chanting “free Palestine” and “cease-fire now” while holding yellow protest signs that read “No Xmas as usual in a genocide” and “DA Jenkins drop all charges on the Bay Bridge 78,” the protesters — many of them representing the Party for Socialism and Liberation — stood outside the former Westfield mall on Market Street as holiday shopping was underway with Christmas just two days away. New York Post A Nicaraguan man who was deported from the US five times has been sentenced to 19 years behind bars for raping an Ohio woman — claiming that he committed the depraved act because he was “possessed by a demon.” German Mathews, 40, pulled his hoodie over his head before sexually assaulting the developmentally disabled woman on April 29 while she walked to a Forest Park bus stop, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported. The Epoch Times The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) raked in a record $4.9 trillion in taxes from Americans in the last fiscal year, due in large part to automated collections processes and aggressive audits that saw taxpayers hit with billions in additional taxes after examination. The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), the watchdog that oversees the IRS, revealed in a Dec. 20 report on tax compliance activities that the agency collected a record-breaking amount of money in fiscal year 2022 from American taxpayers. The $4.9 trillion the tax agency raked in last year was around $790 billion more than the prior year, thanks in large measure to a significant increase in enforcement revenue. The New York Post The family of an autistic Jewish high school student who had a swastika carved on his back in a cruel antisemitic attack by classmates is suing his Las Vegas school. The abused teen and his mom, identified only as S.K. and C.K. in court papers, claim the Clark County School District not only failed to protect the 18-year-old, but dropped the ball on providing him a proper education. “At the outset, the district failed to provide [the student] a safe school environment that was free from harassment, intimidation and bullying,” according to the complaint filed Nov. 13 with the Nevada Department of Special Education. The Hill The Democratic National Committee (DNC) is reporting $20 million cash on hand, the most it’s ever had heading into an election year.  The DNC brought in $12.3 million in November, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), including direct fundraising to the committee and transfers of funds from its joint fundraising and affiliated committees.  At the same time, the Republican National Committee (RNC) reported around $8 million for November, and just under $10 million cash on hand at the close of the month, according to the FEC receipts. New York Post A majority of young Americans said they believe Israel should “be ended and given to Hamas,” according to a shocking poll. The survey, conducted THIS WEEK by Harvard-Harris polling, found 51% of Americans between the ages of 18 and 24 said they believed the long-term answer to the Israel-Palestinian conflict was for “Israel to be ended and given to Hamas and the Palestinians.” Only 32% said they believed in a two-state solution, and just 17% said other Arab states should be asked to absorb Palestinian populations. SF Gate More than 400 protesters gathered at Google’s San Francisco office on Thursday to demand the tech company cut ties with Israel’s government. Occupying a block of Market Street, attendees chanted, held up Palestinian flags, waved signs and listened to speeches by Google workers. Activists from the Palestinian Youth Movement and Jewish Voice for Peace also spoke, advocating for an Israel-Hamas cease-fire and an end to what they called Israel’s “apartheid regime.”  The focus of the protest was Google and Amazon’s Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion contract with Israel, launched in 2021, that provides the country with local data centers and cloud computing services. Breitbart News Harvard University may intend to reduce the proportion of Jews in its student body to 1-2 percent, roughly the Jewish share of the U.S. population, according to a newsletter published by a new group of Jewish alumni of the institution. In a “December update,” the newly-formed “Harvard Jewish Alumni Alliance” reported Friday (original emphasis): We have seen data that suggest that the Jewish population at the College has declined from 20-25 percent in the 1990s-2000s to 5-7 percent today, but that almost all that decline occurred in recent years. We have heard from multiple sources at the University that it is the official, undisclosed policy of the school to drive down Jewish admissions to 1-2 percent of the student body, proportionately matching Jews’ percentage of the U.S. population. This violates basic meritocratic principles and recent Supreme Court jurisprudence. Like the shameful Jewish quotas in Harvard’s past, current limits mimic the Soviets, who used similar tactics to limit Jewish access to education. The purported 2 percent quota would go much further than the 15 percent Jewish quota then-Harvard President Abbott Lowell tried to impose a century ago, when the proportion of Jewish students at Harvard was over 20 percent. ABC News  A 13-year-old boy from Ohio has been charged in connection with a plot to commit a mass shooting at a synagogue in September after he allegedly made detailed threats on Discord, a messaging platform popular among gamers, according to court documents. The individual, who is only identified by the initials J.R. in a criminal complaint due to his age, has been charged in Stark County juvenile court with inducing panic and disorderly conduct, according to charging documents. The teen was reported by Discord to law enforcement in early September after he created “a detailed plan to complete a mass shooting at the Temple Israel” in Canton, according to the documents. The New York Post  Harvard University covered up a high-level investigation into whether its controversial president was a plagiarist — and used an expensive law firm to threaten The Post over our own probe. The college announced Tuesday morning that it had investigated Claudine Gay over whether some of her academic work was plagiarized and had cleared her of breaching the college’s “standards for research misconduct.” Instead, it said that she would request four corrections in two publications to insert citations and quotation marks that were originally “omitted.” READ THE FULL STORY
