Commentary: Fighting Fire with Fire

Morning talk TV hostess Mika Brzezinski and her husband to be serial philanderer Joe Scarborough constantly belittle President Donald Trump on MSNBC’s low-ratings “Morning Joe” show. Their disregard and disrespect for the President is consistent with other liberal main stream media outlets because the President is a Republican.

Earlier this month, as our friend Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit reported, Mika went on an all-out assault against the President. In less than one minute she called President Trump – “Narcissist”, “Mentally Ill’, “Not Well”, “Ignorant”, “Stupid”, “says he can grab women anywhere” and insinuated that he might have homosexual tendencies.

President Trump apparently had enough yesterday as he posted the following in two tweets on Twitter:

“I heard poorly rated @Morning_Joe speaks badly of me (don’t watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came..”

The President’s second tweet said the following:

“…to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year’s Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!”

Predictably, the rest of the establishment media piled on to insist that Brzezinski was right.

The Washington Post offered Brzezinski and Scarborough prime space on its editorial page to hit back with a column that began, “President Trump launched personal attacks against us Thursday, but our concerns about his unmoored behavior go far beyond the personal. America’s leaders and allies are asking themselves yet again whether this man is fit to be president,” and went downhill from there.

The Post, in another column, tried to make a tie between Trump’s tweet and the recent shootings of Republicans at baseball practice saying, “Trump’s tweets arrived three weeks after a 66-year-old from Illinois opened fire on members of Congress during a baseball practice in Alexandria, Va., wounding five including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), who was critically injured.”

CNN offered up its “this is sexist bullying” take in a CNN Politics commentary:

A high-profile and powerful man takes to social media – where he has tens of millions of followers – to allege a prominent woman was “bleeding badly” after a plastic surgery operation.

If that high-profile man was the CEO of a major company, he would, at minimum, be forced to apologize, and, at most, be fired. If that high-profile man was an actor, he’d likely be blackballed by Hollywood for future roles.

Then why, when that person is the President of the United States, should we treat that sort of behavior any differently?

And naturally, virtue-signaling establishment Republicans on Capitol Hill chimed right in.

Establishment Republican senators like Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Ben Sasse of Nebraska tweeted condemnations. “Your tweet was beneath the office and represents what is wrong with American politics, not the greatness of America,” wrote Graham. Wrote Sasse: “Please just stop. This isn’t normal and it’s beneath the dignity of your office.”

Not to be outdone in proclaiming his virtue, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan offered reporters this self-righteous response to the President’s tweets: “Obviously, I don’t see that as an appropriate comment… What we’re trying to do around here is improve the civility and tone of the debate, and this obviously does not do that.”

The problem with all of this establishment Republican virtue-signaling and the establishment media calls for civility is that they only go one way – neither before nor after President Trump hit them like a ton of bricks did anyone in the establishment call out Brzezinski and Scarborough for saying the President is a “Narcissist”, “Mentally Ill’, “Not Well”, “Ignorant” and “Stupid.”

I think White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders got it right when she defended President Trump’s tweets on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”

Sanders said there have been “an outrageous number of personal attacks” on Trump and his staff members on “Morning Joe.”

“I don’t think that the president’s ever been someone who gets attacked and doesn’t push back. There have been an outrageous number of personal attacks, not just to him, but to frankly everyone around him,” Sanders told host Bill Hemmer.

“This is a president who fights fire with fire. And certainly will not be allowed to be bullied by a liberal media and the liberal elites within the media or Hollywood or anywhere else,” she added according to The Hill’s Mallory Shellbourne.

Republicans fighting fire with fire, instead of being punching bags for the Left, what a novel concept.
