We recently pointed out that the Republican establishment was living in a fantasy world in which, less than three weeks before the December 12 Alabama special election, a non-existent candidate would mount a write-in campaign to derail the impending election of Judge Roy Moore.
And in a weird replay of the failed #NeverTrump phenomenon, a phony “centrist Republican” candidate has announced that indeed he is going to run as an “independent” write-in candidate.
Our friend Sean Moran of Breitbart reports that Lee Busby, a retired Marine colonel and former aide to White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, announced on Monday that he will launch a last-minute write-in campaign against Republican nominee Alabama Judge Roy Moore and Democrat Doug Jones.
Bubsy, who retired from the Marine Corps in 2013, has also been an investment banker and defense contractor – in other words a prime example of the military – industrial complex that President Eisenhower warned against.
Busby also admits he attended a fundraiser for Far-Left Democratic candidate Doug Jones, though he denies ever donating to the Democrat candidate reports Sean Moran.
While the White House has indicated President Trump has no plans to campaign in Alabama for Judge Moore, the President has made his support of Moore clear, tweeting over the weekend that Jones must be defeated.
“The last thing we need in Alabama and the U.S. Senate is a Schumer/Pelosi puppet who is WEAK on Crime, WEAK on the Border, Bad for our Military and our great Vets, Bad for our 2nd Amendment, AND WANTS TO RAISES TAXES TO THE SKY. Jones would be a disaster!” the president tweeted.

Busby said he believes Alabama voters want a candidate who falls somewhere in the middle ideologically and said he voted for Ohio Gov. John Kasich in the 2016 Republican primary according to the Business Insider’s Christopher Woodley, so that gives you a pretty clear idea of where he sits on the Republican spectrum – for amnesty, same-sex marriage and against building the wall on our southern border.
And it also shows just how out-of-touch Busby is and how unpromising the Busby write-in campaign is.
In the 2016 Alabama Republican Primary Kasich came in fifth – he booked just 37,970 votes, or 4.4 percent of the vote and he received no delegates.
And looking at how Alabamans self-identify in recent polls things don’t look that great for centrists either.
The recent Emerson poll showed that over 51 percent of Alabama voters had an unfavorable opinion of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and almost 24 percent identified themselves as “anti-establishment.”
In the same way that the totally discredited #NeverTrump crowd threw out ridiculous option after ridiculous option in the primary and general election to try to force Donald Trump out of the race, Mitch McConnell, and his do-boys are happy to throw out ideas with no basis in political reality – like mounting a write-in for a non-entity candidate like Lee Busby – even if carrying out such an idea means throwing the race to the radical Leftist Democrat Doug Jones.
The most powerful slogan in American politics is the simple phrase, “Send them a message.” As the Alabama Senate election approaches conservatives can send the Republican establishment and the DC swamp an unmistakable message by supporting and voting for Judge Roy Moore for Senate.
To “send them a message” is one reason why we urge all CHQ readers in Alabama to vote for Roy Moore in the December 12 Senate election – and if you don’t live in Alabama and can’t vote for Judge Moore you can still send Mitch McConnell, Rob Portman and the rest of the DC swamp a message by donating directly to Judge Moore’s campaign through this link.
