The only adult in Washington just stood up and put an end to the nonsense.
In President Trump’s Friday afternoon address from the White House garden, he put an end to the government shutdown and laid out the terms for the border negotiations going forward.
#1 Put and end to the government shutdown
In one quick declaration, President Trump put an end to the suffering so many Americans who were facing during the longest government shutdown in history.
“I am very proud to announce we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government,” he said. He thanked the incredible men and women who faced hardship over the past few weeks. “You are fantastic people,” he added.
President Trump showed the compassion so many Democrats were lacking in the heated immigration debate.
#2 Reminded Americans of the desperate need for border security
While American federal workers were hurting, so were the families harmed by illegal immigration. They still are. President Trump reminded Americans that while the government shutdown may be over, the threat of illegal immigration is not.
“Walls should not be controversial,” he said. “No matter where you go, walls work.”
He emphasized the desperate need for humanitarian assistance for those who are trafficked and smuggled through our southern border — mostly small children and women.
#3 Laid out a plan for America, and an ultimatum for the Democrats
President Trump’s biggest move on Friday was laying out a plan for Congress to come together and find compromise.
Congress has three weeks before the continuing resolution expires, at which time the government will once again shutdown.
The President ordered House and Senate members to form a conference that will investigate and strategize with Department of Homeland Security employees on how to secure or borders.
In a ‘mark my words’ moment, he said, “So let me be very clear. We really have no choice but to build a powerful wall or steal barrier. If we don’t get a fair deal from Congress, the government will either shutdown on February 15th, again — or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency. We will have great security.”
The time for game playing is over, and now Congress, particularly the Democrats, has no excuse not to act.
President Trump, in a masterful move, alleviated the pain of millions of Americans, while creating even more pressure on Congress to finally fix our broken immigration system.

People are suffering and our President offered the olive branch in good faith. This is the American way. The worry is not DACA but rather will the other party work with him in good faith.
The answer to your implied question is “NO” the Democrats (and establishment Republicans) will not work with him in good faith.
No reason to wait on using his emergency powers although they will be challenged in the courts.Time for him to go Jackson on the Court over this and build the damn wall without screwing us with the DACA amnesty he campaigned against! He got rolled and he needs to stand back up and take action!
Thank you for your comment. I could not have said it better.
