AAA released a survey on Monday showing that almost 60 percent of Tennesseans plan to take a vacation trip this summer.
This percentage is up from 49 percent in last year’s AAA travel survey.
The AAA survey shows that 34 percent of Tennesseans plan to take more summer vacations.
Even with the increase in Tennesseans planning to take vacation trips this summer, 51 percent of Tennessee respondents are worried about their personal finances. Furthermore, 35 percent of Tennesseans are concerned about the economy.
According to the survey, 32 percent of Tennesseans would rather spend money on other things besides travel.
“Despite economic uncertainties, Americans still prioritize vacations as an essential part of life,” said Debbie Haas, vice president of Travel for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Whether it’s a relaxing beach escape, an adventurous road trip or a cruise, people view summer travel as a vital way to invest in their well-being and create lasting memories.”
For Tennesseans taking vacations this summer, 50 percent have booked or planned their travel plans, although they have not been finalized.
Most Tennesseeans expect to take their vacations in June and July.
The AAA survey says over 50 percent of Tennesseans will visit a beach destination, and 35 percent will visit a city destination.
In addition, 64 percent of Tennesseans will travel within the continental U.S., 12 percent to the Caribbean, and 10 percent to Europe.
AAA released data last week showing Tennessee has the seventh-lowest gas prices in the country. On average, gas prices in the state are $2.77.
For the AAA survey, 400 residents from Tennessee completed it online. This survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 percent.
