I-65 Interchange at Buckner Road Expects to Reopen Next Week: Report

I-65

The new I-65 Interchange at Buckner Road in Spring Hill is expected to open on May 31 after being under construction for more than two years, according to a report by Williamson Source.

On its website, Spring Hill called the new interchange a “game-changer” for the area, as there is currently only one I-65 access point to the city through the Saturn Parkway Exit.

The city also said the new interchange at Buckner Road will give the area a “much-needed second access point and should help the flow of traffic to new developments in the area.”

The exit has been constructed as a diverging diamond interchange – the second of its kind in Tennessee.

The city notes that the new interchange will provide “direct access” to the June Lake Development, a mixed-use development situated along Buckner Lane. The development will be home to 3.9 million square feet of commercial office space, 1.3 million square feet of retail and restaurant space, 2,900 homes, and 400 hotel rooms.

“The purpose of the I-65 interchange project is to improve regional connectivity and accessibility to the interstate system by providing direct access to Spring Hill and reducing traffic demands at the existing interchanges,” the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) writes on its website.

TDOT notes that the interchange project’s original completion date was set for the summer of 2023; however, it was pushed back to the winter of 2023 due to “permitting and Right of Way delays” and eventually to the spring of 2024 due to “unforeseen weather and unsuitable soil.”

The project costs $54,258,650, of which the city of Spring Hill is paying $30 million.

I-65, the most fretted over stretch of road in the state. It doesn’t need to be widened, it doesn’t have to be repaved every two years, and there’s no need to spend millions on new interchanges. No more boondoggles. Suck it up and leave home earlier!

of course i-65 in that area is only two lanes on each side still, it needs to be 4 each way down past SH
