Members of law enforcement agencies near Rutherford County are paying tribute to and honoring a fallen detective.
Detective Jacob Beu with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash Sunday on Armstrong Valley Road while on duty. Deputies responded to the crash and found Beu (pictured above) critically injured. He later died at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford.

Emergency responders in Rutherford County, the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP), and Metro Nashville Police (MNP) joined RCSO in transporting Beu’s body to the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville Sunday afternoon. La Vergne Fire Department draped an American flag from a bridge over Interstate 24 to remember the fallen detective.
“The Sheriff’s Office thanks all of the agencies who paid tribute to Detective Beu by joining the escort and showing the flag. We are grateful for our emergency partners,” RSCO wrote in a Facebook post.
During Monday’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, Murfreesboro Police Department and THP members also paid tribute to Beu by carrying a blue line flag with his badge number and a U.S. Marine Corps flag to signify his service a U.S. Marine.

Beu was a veteran sheriff’s office deputy, according to RCSO. He was promoted to patrol corporal in March 2021 before being promoted to narcotics detective last year.
Beu also served as a member of the SWAT Team, where he and his team earned honors as Officer of the Month in August 2021 for their response to the devastating floods in Waverly and Humphreys County. The fallen detective was also honored by Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 2018 for making numerous arrests of drunk drivers.
“Detective Beu was a valued detective in the Narcotics Division,” Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh said in a statement. “We send our sympathy to his family and his Sheriff’s Office family in his death.”
