Tennessee Faith and Freedom Coalition Holds Its First Annual Legislative Awards Ceremony

The Tennessee Faith and Freedom Coalition (TNFFC) held its first annual TNFFC Legislative Awards Ceremony this week and distributed five Defender of Freedom awards and two Conservative Champion awards.

Both award categories are used to “recognize contributions made by recipients who go above and beyond the call of duty making contributions to protect the rights, freedoms and values of the citizens of the great state of Tennessee,” according to TNFFC.

TNFFC’s Conservative Champion awards are given to a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee State Senate. The Defender of Freedom awards are given to additional conservative elected officials around the state.

On Monday, TNFFC awarded Defender of Freedom awards to the following conservative leaders:

  • Tennessee State Senator Dawn White (R-Murfreesboro)
  • Tennessee State Senator John Stevens (R-Huntingdon)
  • Tennessee State Representative Jody Barrett (R-Dickson)
  • Tennessee State Representative Rusty Grills (R-Newbern)
  • Knox County, Tennessee, Mayor Glenn Jacobs

TNFFC awarded Tennessee Senate Majority Leader Jack Johnson (R-Franklin) and Tennessee House Majority Leader William Lamberth (R-Portland) with its 2023 Conservative Champion awards.

TNFFC commended Johnson’s sponsorship of two bills recently signed into law – one banning minors from receiving puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries, and another that outlaws drag shows in public spaces and restricts them to age-appropriate venues. TNFFC acknowledged Johnson’s sponsorship of SB0011 and his “constant defense of the Constitution.”

In awarding Representative Lamberth, TNFFC also commended his sponsorship of the bill banning minors from receiving puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and transgender surgeries, and his “good government legislation that saves the taxpayer money and leadership on faith-based initiatives.”

“Together, Leaders Johnson and Lamberth demonstrate the good that conservatives in the Tennessee General Assembly can do for their constituents when both chambers work in concert, which they do exceptionally well,” TNFFC stated.
