General Motors (GM) announced on Tuesday it will invest $4 billion over the next two years in its manufacturing plants nationwide.
One of the plants that will receive funding from the company is the Spring Hill Manufacturing plant, located in Spring Hill, Tennessee.
GM said this investment will help the company assemble more than 2 million vehicles per year in America.
The Spring Hill location, along with locations in Michigan and Kansas, will expand the production of finished vehicles for some of GM’s top-selling models.
GM will add the production of gas-powered Chevrolet Blazers at the Spring Hill plant in 2027. This vehicle will be produced alongside the Cadillac LYRIQ, VISTIQ EVs, and the Cadillac XT5.
In Michigan at the Orion Assembly, GM will produce gas-powered full-size SUVs and light-duty pickup trucks in early 2027.
The GM facility in Detroit-Hamtramck will focus on producing the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Cadillac Escalade IQ, and GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV.
In Kansas, at the Fairfax Assembly, it will assemble gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox in mid-2027. GM said this plant is expected to start making the Chevrolet Bolt EV by the end of 2025.
Mary Barra, GM’s chair and CEO, said GM believes “the future of transportation will be driven by American innovation and manufacturing expertise.” She added that GM’s announcement shows its “ongoing commitment to build vehicles in the U.S and to support American jobs.”
“We’re focused on giving customers choice and offering a broad range of vehicles they love,” Barra explained.
GM President Mark Reuss stated the company’s investment is about hardworking Americans assembling vehicles who “are proud to build and that customers are proud to own.”
“As you travel the country, you can see firsthand the scale of our manufacturing footprint and the positive economic impact on our communities and our country,” he noted.
As a company, GM is on track to sell the most American full-sized pickups for the sixth consecutive year and full-size SUVs for the 51st straight year.
