Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is celebrating five years since the company relocated its headquarters operations from Cypress, California to Franklin, Tennessee in 2019.
Mitsubishi Motors’ $18.25 million investment in Williamson County has since created approximately 180 jobs in the area.
The company’s relocation to Franklin for all of its North American corporate headquarters operations was completed in December 2019 – marking the first time in 37 years that the company moved from its California location.
“We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished here in Tennessee over the past five years,” Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. President and CEO Mark Chaffin said in a statement.
“Our commitment to growing our business while creating jobs and supporting the local community has been a cornerstone of our operations. We look forward to continuing this strong partnership and calling Tennessee ‘home’ for years to come,” Chaffin added.
Upon its move to Franklin, Mitsubishi Motors took occupancy of the top two floors of a newly designed building at the time in the Cool Springs neighborhood.
The company’s choice of Franklin to relocate its headquarters was for the company to be closer to its sister company, Nissan, which also has its North American headquarters in Williamson County.
Since its move to the Volunteer State, Mitsubishi Motors said the company has “experienced remarkable business achievements, including key vehicle launches, record-breaking sales figures, and increased community involvement.”
Moving forward, the company is focused on the next chapter of its business plan called “Momentum 2030.”
This plan, according to Mitsubishi Motors, will see the company “debut new vehicles, expand its national dealer-partner count, add new ways for customers to shop for vehicles, and add cutting-edge technology to the car-buying process.”
Transportation equipment is one of Tennessee’s top exports as it accounts for 15 percent of the state’s total exports, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD).
TNECD estimates that over 142,900 Tennesseans are employed by automotive establishments.
