According to a press release by the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development (TNECD), the project is expected to create 209 new jobs in Davidson County – more than doubling the company’s total employment in Tennessee.
United Record Pressing – founded in Nashville in 1949 – is the oldest and largest vinyl record pressing plant in North America, manufacturing approximately 50,000 records per day for artists of all scales and genres of music. The company is known for pressing the first Beatles single in America and many of the classic Motown hits during the 1960s and ‘70s.
“United Record Pressing is and always has been a Tennessee-based company with over 74 years of rich history here. We are excited to be making this investment in our expansion in Middle Tennessee and are very appreciative of the important support we have received,” Mark Michaels, CEO and chairman of United Record Pressing, said in a statement.
Once United Record Pressing’s expansion project is complete, the additional manufacturing capacity and facility infrastructure improvements will allow the company to “better serve its growing customer demand,” TNECD notes.
“Tennessee is known by the brands that call our state home, and we are grateful that United Record Pressing has chosen to further invest and create jobs in the Volunteer State,” TNECD Commissioner Stuart McWhorter added in a statement. “When companies choose to grow in Tennessee, it’s a huge vote of confidence to our workforce and central location, and we couldn’t be more pleased to see United Record Pressing expand in Nashville.”
United Record Pressing is not the only vinyl record pressing company recently expanding in Davidson County. Last May, Nashville Record Pressing, LLC announced that the company would establish operations in Nashville, including its headquarters, manufacturing, distribution and back-office functions.
