A report from POD, the moving and storage company, says that three cities in Tennessee are among the top 20 in America where people are moving.
“We’re seeing more people move to the Southern Appalachian region, which includes states like North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama,” the report said. “Tennessee tied with Florida for the third most popular state for new moves.”
Knoxville ranked eighth on POD’s top 20 list, down from seventh last year, and Nashville ranked 13th, down from 11th last year.
Also, Johnson City appeared on the top 20 list for the first time, coming in at 15th.
The Myrtle Beach, South Carolina/Wilmington, North Carolina are ranked first in the nation for move-ins for the second year in a row, according to the report.
According to census data, of state-to-state migration, 225,000 people moved to Tennessee between July 2021 and July 2022. More than 25,000 came from Florida, while 22,000 came from California.
Citing the Iron Mountain Data, POD says that Tennessee is a popular place for companies to move to.

On the other end of the spectrum, the highest number of residents moved out of Los Angeles and San Francisco respectively, both for the second straight year.
