Davidson County GOP Releases Straw Poll Results for Nashville Mayor, 2024 GOP Presidential Nominee

The Davidson County Republican Party (DCRP) hosted a Summer Picnic event on Saturday and conducted a straw poll to “weigh attendees’ choice on the August 3 Nashville Mayor’s Race and to gauge early voters on the 2024 Republican presidential primary.”

Participants of the straw poll, according to DCRP, “overwhelmingly” supported candidate Alice Rolli for Nashville Mayor, as she received 91 total votes compared to the 5 votes counted for Natisha Brooks out of the 12-person race.

“Davidson County Republicans look forward to seeing a different kind of leader and more responsible fiscal management put in place in this year’s Metro Mayoral and Council elections,” DCRP noted in a press release, adding that its Summer Picnic event was a “great launching pad to usher some of those changes.”

In regards to the 2024 GOP presidential primary race, 56 respondents voted for former president Donald Trump while 21 voted for Ron DeSantis in DCRP’s straw poll.

“Our Party showed great unity and enthusiasm at our Summer Picnic. We cannot thank our many attendees enough for coming out and reminding us that turning Nashville red starts in every home and neighborhood and requires paying attention to the issues that affect us all,” Second Vice-Chair of the DCRP and lead organizer of the event Dia Hart said in a statement.

DCRP’s picnic event, held at Edwin Warner Park Shelter, was catered by Honeyfire BBQ and hosted live entertainment from Carvin Walls and BASTE Records artists. Tennessee U.S. Representatives John Rose (R-TN-06), Andy Ogles (R-TN-05), and Mark Green (R-TN-07) – all whose districts include parts of Davidson County – also attended the event.

Michael Patrick Leahy, CEO & Editor-in-Chief of The Tennessee Star, served as the event’s Master of Ceremonies.

The 2023 Nashville mayoral election will be held on August 3, with a runoff on September 14, if necessary. The 2024 Tennessee Republican presidential primary will be held on March 5, 2024.
