Tuesday, October 8 is the first day of early in-person voting and absentee voting by mail for the November 5 general election in Ohio.
Early in-person voting includes the last two Saturdays, October 26 and November 2, and the last Sunday, November 3, before Election Day.
Absentee mail-in ballots must be requested by Wednesday, October 29 and postmarked by Monday, November 4.
Polls are open on Election Day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose (pictured here) said his office is “prepared for voters to begin heading to their early voting centers and begin receiving their requested absentee ballots.”
“Bipartisan election officials across Ohio made a commitment to ensure we’re fully prepared for this high-profile election,” LaRose added. “Tedious preparation is the key to executing any successful election, and Ohioans can have confidence that no matter which of Ohio’s three convenient methods of voting they choose, their vote will be secure.”
Voters are required to present an approved photo ID at their polling location in order to cast a vote in Ohio.
Ohio currently ranks 11th in the nation in maintaining the most secure elections, according to the Heritage Foundation’s Election Integrity Scorecard.
In addition to candidates for local offices, Ohio’s general election ballot will include statewide presidential, U.S. Senate, and Supreme Court candidates and a statewide ballot measure, labeled Issue 1.
Issue 1, if passed, would replace the current Ohio Redistricting Commission to instead create a new commission that would not be composed of current or former elected officials.
Republicans, including former President Donald Trump, have warned that such changes to the state’s redistricting rules proposed by the ballot measure would not end gerrymandered districts.
