Jim Gingrich Leads Nashville Mayor’s Race in Fundraising, Data Shows

New data by the Davidson County Election Commission compiled by Axios shows how much cash each candidate running for Nashville mayor has on hand through the first quarter of this year.

In January, Nashville Mayor John Cooper announced that he would not seek re-election, leaving the race wide open.

According to the data, one candidate, former AllianceBernstein COO Jim Gingrich (pictured above), leads the field of candidates in terms of cash on hand with a total of $2.04 million. The candidates with the next most amount of cash on hand are former Metro official Matt Wiltshire with $1.41 million and Tennessee State Senator Jeff Yarbro (D-Nashville) with $323,690.

The data also shows Metro Council Member Freddie O’Connell with $299,040 on hand, businessperson and neighborhood activist Alice Rolli with $197,840 on hand, and Metro Council Member-at-Large Sharon Hurt with $97,020 on hand.

The Davidson County Election Commission data also showed how much money each candidate raised from donors compared to personal loans to their campaigns.

Most of Gingrich’s and Rolli’s campaign funds came from personal loans. A small percentage of Yarbro’s funds were from personal loans as well.

The 2023 Nashville mayoral election will be held on August 3, with a runoff on September 14, if necessary. Voter registration ends on July 5, with early voting beginning on July 14. The last day to request an absentee ballot is July 27.
