Former President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign is expected to send people into the field next week to counterprogram the Democratic convention, a campaign official told Fox News.
Presidential candidates usually keep a low profile during the nominating conventions of their opponents, but President Joe Biden broke with tradition last month by campaigning in Nevada during the Republican convention. However, Biden only made a couple stops because he contracted COVID-19.
The Trump campaign reportedly said it would put “a whole cadre of people” into the field starting next Monday, including Trump and some of his biggest supporters. Republican National Committee chair Michael Whatley will also be in the field to help.
“We’re certainly going to have key people in the battlegrounds and available to the media to counterprogram,” the Trump adviser told the outlet.
The former president claimed last week in a press conference that he would also be picking up his time on the campaign trail after the Democratic convention in Chicago. He is expected to have another news conference on Thursday.
Trump held a rally in Ashville, North Carolina, on Wednesday where he pitted his economic agenda and record against Vice President Kamala Harris’s. Harris is the Democratic presidential nominee. Trump is also expected to campaign in Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, campaigned in Michigan on Wednesday, and will campaign in Pennsylvania on Thursday, and Wisconsin on Friday.
The Democratic Convention will take place in Chicago from Aug. 19 through Aug. 22.
