Tom Zawistowski, president of the We the People Convention, said Bernie Moreno, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Ohio, continues to lead incumbent U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) leading up to the November 5 general election as a “huge” effort is underway on the ground in the Buckeye State to get out the vote for Republicans.
Zawistowski said Moreno is up by 3 percentage points over Brown. Both candidates have launched a combined $260 million in television ads to persuade voters before Election Day.
“The most recent polls show that Moreno continues to take a bigger lead. He was up by 2 percent in the last poll and the most recent poll shows him up by 3 percent. That means he’s probably up by five or six,” Zawistowski said on Wednesday’s edition of The Michael Patrick Leahy Show.
“With Trump really looking to win Ohio by 12, you can’t imagine that Moreno isn’t going to beat Brown. But they’re throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at Bernie Moreno,” Zawistowski added.
Zawistowski partially attributed Moreno’s lead in the polls to a “huge” on-the-ground effort by billionaire Elon Musk and others to get out the vote for Republicans.
“There’s a huge effort underway that isn’t being reported. The common person wouldn’t see it unless you were involved. I’ll tell you who’s making an incredible effect is this effort by Elon Musk. His people are on the ground in Ohio’s 13th congressional district. He’s paying $30 an hour, so he’s getting people and they’re being very effective,” Zawistowski explained.
Regarding the national presidential race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, Zawistowski said he believes all of the momentum “seems to be flowing in Trump’s direction.”
Zawistowski said a major deciding factor in the presidential race will be the degree to which supporters of former Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. turn out to vote for Trump.
“Do not doubt the impact that the RFK Jr. supporters are going to have on this election. These are people that care about the environment, about medicine, about health, about food safety, about COVID and all that. They haven’t had a reason to vote and many of them don’t vote, but they’re going to vote this time because this is a chance of a lifetime. They want RFK Jr. to be in the Trump administration, overseeing these parts of the government that involve health care,” Zawistowski explained.
