A report containing emails from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, sent two days after she was accused in a court filing of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the special prosecutor she appointed to investigate former President Donald Trump, revealed she made allegations of racism against Trump’s attorney, Steve Sadow.

On January 8, Willis was accused of engaging in a romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade, whom she appointed to oversee her case against Trump, in a court filing by Michael Roman, who is a co-defendant in the Georgia election case against Trump.

The district attorney was also accused of benefiting from Wade’s appointment as special prosecutor in the form of luxurious vacations, and credit card statements made public through Wade’s divorce case revealed he bought plane tickets to popular vacation destinations in Willis’ name. Wade has been compensated more than $650,000 since Willis appointed him to the Trump case.

Fox 5 Atlanta now reports that just two days after the accusations surfaced, on January 10, Executive District Attorney Daysha Young replied to a December 27, 2023, email from Sadow titled “PLEASE respond to my emails below.” Sadow reportedly sought to understand what documents Fulton County had and was trying to avoid making court filings to obtain discovery documents.

The outlet reported that Young told Sadow the emails were “deemed not worthy of response” and declared that she and Willis “are both aware, especially as African American women, some find it difficult to treat us respectfully.”

Willis then replied to the email chain, which also included the defense attorneys for other defendants according to Fox 5 Atlanta, and told Sadow that “some people will never be able to respect African Americans and/or women as their equal and counterpart,” calling it a “burden you do not experience.” Sadow appears to be a white male.

“Further, some are so used to doing it they are not even aware they are doing it while others are intentional in their continued disrespect,” Willis told Sadow, according to the report.

Trump’s attorney reportedly replied that Young’s email was “simply offensive, uncalled-for and untrue” and insisted to Willis, “No defense counsel has treated you or your prosecutors in a disrespectful or condescending manner… the relationship among counsel in our case has nothing to do with race or gender, nor should it.”

The emails shine new light on Willis’ office between the time the allegation about her romantic involvement with Wade surfaced and her January 14 “Letter from God” message she delivered from the pulpit of a Baptist church in Atlanta.

In that church appearance, Willis suggested those criticizing Wade over the alleged relationship are playing the “race card,” citing other special prosecutors who are paid the same hourly rate as Wade.

Still, Willis asked God for forgiveness and declared, “You cannot expect black women to be perfect and save the world… We need to be allowed to stumble. We need grace.”

Since the allegation surfaced, Willis has faced a criminal referral and an official complaint with the Georgia State Bar. Additionally, Republicans in the Georgia State Senate are pursuing an investigation into the allegations about Willis, and a Fulton County Commissioner recently sent a letter to Willis demanding answers.

Governor Brian Kemp also recently stated that he wants to reform Georgia law to empower a new agency to investigate Willis.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ordered Willis to file a response to Roman’s claims by February 2 and to appear in court to defend herself on February 15.
