Memphis Police Identify, Issue Arrest Warrant for Suspect in Fast Food Restaurant Killing

Memphis Drive Thru Crime

The Memphis Police Department (MPD) Thursday announced that it identified the suspect in a shootout at a Church’s Chicken on Monday night.

Monica Williams (pictured above), 45, will face a First Degree Murder charge when she is apprehended. A warrant has been put out for her arrest.

“A warrant has been issued for Monica Williams, 45, charging her with First Degree Murder,” MPD said on Facebook. “The victim was working in the business when a female with purple hair driving a teal-colored compact SUV drove through the drive-thru and argued with the victim. The teal-colored SUV drove off the lot, and the victim walked outside of the business to get some air. A few moments later, a gunshot was heard, and the teal-colored SUV was seen on video speeding off the parking lot. The victim was located outside of the business.”

The victim, who remains unidentified, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC), Williams served a three year prison sentence from August of 2009 to August of 2012. The department, however, does not provide specifics on the crime for which she was convicted.

Intelius, a public records company that offers criminal histories, appears to have pulled Williams’ profile from its site at the time of this writing.

“Sorry, this report is no longer available,” the site says when selecting the report for a 45-year-old Monica Williams from Memphis. “The report linked to the profile you are searching has been removed from our site.”

Crime Stoppers of Memphis and Shelby County is offering a cash reward for information leading to Williams’ arrest.

The murder is yet another in the city that had the highest murder rate of any large city in the United States in 2023.

On Saturday, July 20, MPD will be hosting a job expo to recruit officers to the force.
