Nashville Teen Arrested for Alleged Shooting that Left 13-Year-Old Dead, 16-Year-Old Hospitalized

Murder Suspect De'Anthony Osasosifo

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) on Thursday confirmed the arrest of 15-year-old De’Anthony Osasosifo and named him as a suspect in the Wednesday night shooting that left a 13-year-old dead and his 16-year-old sister hospitalized.

MNPD revealed on social media that a 13-year-old boy was fatally wounded and his 16-year-old sister was shot and suffered non-life threatening injuries after “gunfire erupted during a teen fight” in the parking lot of the Red Caboose Park in Bellevue.

The department later confirmed their suspect is 15-year-old Osasosifo. Police also announced the teen who was fatally shot is Aayden Hayes but did not release a name for his sister.

According to MNPD, an Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) dog was used to locate the gun Osasosifo allegedly used.

MNPD spokesman Don Aaron told NewsChannel 5 reporter Jason Lamb the incident began as a fight between “middle school” girls at the park which somehow escalated to include gunfire.

Aaron explained, “As the fight was taking place, other teens appeared to have joined in. It escalated, someone pulled a gun and began firing. As a result of that gunfire, two individuals, brother and sister, a 16-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy were hit. The 16-year-old girl made it just up the street to the fire hall, she collapsed there, asked for assistance, she was rushed to the hospital, her condition is believed to be non-life threatening.”

In a press briefing, Aaron confirmed police are investigating whether the teens were in the park “for the purpose of fighting.”

He explained that police rushed both victims to the hospital, but confirmed the 13-year-old did not survive.

Aaron explained Osasosifo was arrested less than a mile away while “walking on Highway 70.”

He added, “There are also other witnesses here who are being questioned by the fire hall, who saw various elements of this, and we’re putting the pieces of the puzzle together now,” and confirmed, “The bulk of these persons, almost all of these persons involved, were teens. The initial fight between girls, from my understanding, were middle school students.”

Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell wrote in a post to the social media platform X after the shooting, “My heart breaks tonight for the families who experienced firsthand the tragedy of gun violence in a Bellevue Park.”

After expressing his gratitude for police and the Nashville Fire Department, O’Connell promised, “We continue to invest in strategies to reduce gun violence and expand youth opportunity.”
