President Donald Trump appointed Judge Jeanine Pirro to be the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia on Thursday hours after withdrawing the nomination of Ed Martin for the top D.C. prosecutor job.

“I am pleased to announce that Judge Jeanine Pirro will be appointed interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia…Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York. She is in a class by herself. Congratulations Jeanine,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Pirro, widely known for co-hosting Fox News’ ‘The Five,’ previously served as Assistant District Attorney for Westchester County, New York and as a county judge and district attorney, where she was the first woman ever to be elected to those positions.

The president called Pirro a “powerful crusader for victims of crime.”

Pirro joins a considerable number of former Fox News employees – including Pete Hegseth, Sean Duffy, and Tammy Bruce – to be tapped for a role by the Trump administration.

Trump’s appointment of Pirro came hours after he told reporters in the Oval Office he would be withdrawing Martin (pictured here) from being appointed to serve full time as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia after a number of Republican U.S. Senators indicated they would not vote to confirm him to the role.

Noting how crime was down 25 percent in D.C. during Martin’s tenure in the role in which he began serving on January 20, Trump praised Martin and said he would be assigning him to a different role in his administration.

Thursday evening, Trump revealed that Martin would serve the Department of Justice as the new Director of the Weaponization Working Group, Associate Deputy Attorney General, and Pardon Attorney.

“In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime, and provide much needed Justice for its victims. Congratulations Ed,” Trump said.
