Tennessee GOP Congressional Members React to SCOTUS’ Affirmative Action Ruling

Republican members of Tennessee’s congressional delegation applauded the U.S. Supreme Court’s (SCOTUS) decision to strike down affirmative action in college admissions via two cases against Harvard and the University of North Carolina.

In the cases that challenged the constitutionality of race-based admissions, SCOTUS determined that affirmative action violates the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. The Court’s decision overruled a 2003 opinion that race could be a determining factor in the college admissions process.

Following the Court’s decision, revealed Thursday, many Tennessee Republican lawmakers applauded the ruling and denounced affirmative action.

In a Twitter post, Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) commented, “Affirmative action forces colleges to put students into a box. It discredits the hard work and diverse backgrounds that countless applicants have, and requires colleges to value one single characteristic above others. This is wrong and un-American.”

U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN-01) added, “Today’s SCOTUS ruling striking down affirmative action marks a tremendous day for our nation. Thank you President Trump for nominating justices who put an end to discrimination in college admissions!”

U.S. Congressman Andy Ogles (R-TN-05) commented, “Kudos to SCOTUS for addressing universities favoring ‘woke’ racial quotas over fair admissions. One’s identity is more than skin color. It’s about character, challenges overcome, and unique contributions.”

“Anything less is a blot on the legacy of the civil rights leaders in American history and the ideals for which they fought,” Ogles added.

U.S. Representative Mark Green (R-TN-07) also commended the court’s ruling, asserting that “allowing universities to continue violating the Constitution with impunity would have been a major mistake,” before adding, “No one should be denied a college education because of his or her race, color, or national origin.”

U.S. Representative David Kustoff (R-TN-08) added, “Admissions should be decided on merit, not on race. Every student deserves equal opportunity to get a higher education.”

U.S. Congressman Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN-03) noted that the court’s ruling “upholds that every American deserves equal treatment and to be judged on their merit.”

Reply to “TAKE OFF THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES” – saying: “This is Obama’s 3rd term.” you are absolutely right! canedelisa rice is IN THE WH feeding husain obama and directing all the activities, biden does not even have the mental capacity to do what’s going on. obama is on his way in the trip to destroy the US; remember what he said in 2008: “This is the greatest country in the world, HELP ME CHANGE IT!”
also, you say “Some media folks call them incompetent. I believe they are traitors & communists” – again, you are right, they ARE very competent – they are EVIL and successfully doing what they REALLY intend to – under the guise of incompetence – they’re doing all they can to destroy this country from the inside.

  2. TAKE OFF THE ROSE COLORED GLASSES

It’s pretty shameful that Ivy League Institutions that charge such exorbitant tuotions to attend & yet the Marxist Professors push the Communist Totalitarian Ideology basically turning out a generation of people with no sense of the American Democratic Republic & why we fought WWII to get rid of Communism in the West.
The outrageous Tuitions eliminates a huge portion of American students no matter the color.
The Chinese Communist Party donates so much money to the ELITE Schools allowing them to control the Academic System.
Congress should disallow any Communist Students or Professord or Tax money be invested in any American Institutions.
China’s 50 year plan to overcome America without ever firing a shot is beginning to look possible thanks to Pres Joe Biden & his Marxist Staff who are leftovers from the Obama Admin. Some media folks call them incompetent. I believe they are traitors & communists, & work with China to accomplish the 50 year plan. People recognize that JB is a Manchurian POTUS. This is Obama’s 3rd term. He wants a 4th term to accomplish his Tranformation of America Dream. Joe sold his soul to get the Democrat Nomination, which he has coveted for 50 years. Since Obama was unable to run for a 3rd or 4th term, Joe volunteered while he was VP to be Obama’s B-t–h. Biden didn’t need any brains or accomplishments in his corrupt life to be the Candidate he just had to give up his Faith & Honor & Turn On His Country. He has done a great job at that. History will not treat him or Obama well.
    Additionally they are both Racists.

Admission applications should consist of two parts: Front page which includes personal information such as name, gender, etc. Second part which includes NO personal information of ANY kind, rather all academic information and activities to be evaluated. The admissions office would separate the two parts after assigning a code/number to both parts. The evaluating committee receives only the second part and makes decisions on the merits, without knowing the applicant’s personal data, which only the office has.

Unfortunately, people like “GregSchmitty” above, don’t realize that they are racist by their very comments. SAD.
“”Jews now make up 9.9 percent of Harvard’s undergraduate enrollment and 12.2 percent at Yale, according to estimates on Hillel’s website. The share of Jewish students at Columbia University is an estimated 22.3 percent. Roughly 8.8 percent of Dartmouth students, and 9.6 percent of Princeton students, are Jewish.””

We need a system where one’s race does not result in favored treatment. This is the only way to say we are all equal. PERIOD!

I fully agree with Mr Allen. Admission quotas in universities are racist. Admission preference based on the color of one’s skin is racism. I wonder how Martin Luther King today would think. Recall he preached wanting to live in a world where one is judged by their character, not the color of their skin. In seems to me the likes of Sharpton either didn’t listen or didn’t understand what he said. I can only laugh when hearing Elizabeth Warren who sought, and received preferential treatment in her lie claiming Native American heritage. Based on her lie she secured a faulty position, she secured school admission, which later pivoted to her holding a seat in the US Senate.

OK, here’s what’s going to happen as a result of this decision.
Schools like Harvard will continue to do what they have been doing. There will be lawsuits, depending on the district Judge who hears the case, they may win, they may lose, as Obama and Biden and even some Trump appointees (see Thomas Parker) who disagree with tis decision, “interpret” the new school guidelines as being Constitutional. These cases may or may not find their way back to SCOTUS, but regardless nothing will change.
The Ivy schools in particular will continue to be majority Jewish, with some sprinkling of “vibrancy” and “diversity”. Graduates of these schools will continue to populate the various agencies, administrations and other creatures of DC.
    In short, nothing will change.

One of the definitions of racism, found in the Cambridge Dictionary; “The belief that some races are better than others, or the unfair treatment of someone because of her race.” Favoring a particular race when it comes to college admissions is obvious racism, and I believe SCOTUS was correct in finding against the practice.

College admission in the 21st century should be based on academic capability and it should not make a damn bit of difference what color your skin is. If you want to attend an Ivy League College, then your academic credentials better be excellent, otherwise attend a different school. I hope in this day and age, there is no “systemic racism” left in the American educational system. Everyone’s ability to attend the college of their choice should be based on their academic standing, not the color of their skin.
