Voter turnout through the first nine days of early voting in Tennessee is lower than the turnout for the first nine days of early voting in the 2020 general election, data published by the Tennessee Secretary of State’s office shows.
In 2020, a total of 1,556,824 ballots – 1,381,147 of which were early-in person ballots and 175,677 absentee ballots – were recorded through the first nine days of early voting, according to the data.
Early voting totals for this year’s November 5 general election through the first nine days of early voting (October 16-October 25) shows just 1,450,625 ballots have been recorded – 1,385,635 early-in person ballots and 64,982 absentee ballots.
The Tennessee Secretary of State’s office estimates that approximately 30.04 percent of the state’s voters have cast a ballot during the first nine days of early voting.
The difference between 2020 and 2024’s early voting totals through the first nine days is approximately 7.1 percent.
Out of Tennessee’s 95 counties, Loudon County leads the way in early voting turnout as 46.08 percent of the county’s population has cast a vote for the November 5 general election.
The county with the lowest voter turnout through the first nine days of early voting is Montgomery County, as only 18.66 percent of its population has cast a vote for the general election.
This week marks the last week of early voting as polls are open from Monday, October 28 through Thursday, October 31 with times varying by polling location.
Absentee mail-in ballots must be requested by Tuesday, October 29 and be received by voters’ respective election commission no later than the close of polls on Election Day.
